UPDATED: JUN 23, 2014 33cl, Vintage 2012, as Emelisse White Label Barley Wine 2012 ’Buffalo Trace Bourbon Barrel Aged’, new exclusive Dutch brew, from Melger’s Haarlem, very complex brew, alcoholic/woody and slightly fruity, yet not too heavy, balanced, cloudy, nearly no head, good brew, yet expensive!

Troebele honing en caramelkleur met weinig schuim. Zoet zure geur, met iets van honing. Smaakt zoetig honing met een alcohol nasmaak.

Deep copper with a white, lacy, lasting, frothy head. Smells of deep caramel with dried fruit-cherry and grapes, sweet malt and vanilla notes. Smooth creamy full body with faint carbonation. Tastes of sweet toffee and caramel with soft fruity strawberries on a bourbon sharp alcohol bitter finish. Vanilla, oak balances out the bourbon spices well. Very sweet and boozy for the moment, could use a decade to become incredible.

Lovely brown/red colored beer, smells of bourbon and a bit of sour cherry. Sweet beer, fruity, bourbon, bit of an alcohol taste. Aftertaste is very slightly bitter and vanilla and mostly bourbon. Special and nice beer, bit easier then some whisky barrel ages beers but still a very complex beer.

Draft at BBF’13
Hazy hazelnut color. Tan head. Aroma is vanilla, oak, malts. Taste like aroma, strong barley wine taste. Some alcohol. Full body, good carbo. Probably the best beer at Borefts ’13.

Tap at IMBC 2013. It pours hazy deep amber with a medium yellow-white head. The nose is butterscotch, vanilla, fudge, marshmallow, wood and bourbon. The taste is bitter-sweet, toffee, butterscotch, spice, wood, bourbon, over-ripe fruit, brown sugar, raisin and vanilla with a dry, warming finish. Full body, fine carbonation and oily mouth-feel. Hides abv well. Smooth, sweet and rather drinkable.

Amsterdam. Bottle in my hotel room. Hazy amber beer, small pale cream coloured head. Smooth palate with light minerally carbonation. Smooth semi sweet malt that is well integrated with strong smooth bourbon. Good sweet vanilla oak provides a counterpoint. Light bourbon spice and nice dried fruits. Finishes semi dry. A muscular beer and not afraid to show it’s strength but very tasty
