4.6 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
UPDATED: SEP 29, 2012 Draft @ BBFí12
Well, this is some re-rate. Fortunately I didnít know I had this one before, for this was the best beer I had this festival! Unclear amber, good (for barley wine) light beige head. Good lacing. Outstanding aroma of vanilla, bourbon. Taste is almost as good as the aroma
Bottle @ Home
Hazy dark amber with no head worth to be mentioned. Aroma is barley wine with whiskey, some wood and peat. Iím not really fond of the body and carbonation. Body seems a bit low for a 10.5% beer and carbo...donít know. Itís not very sweet, bit bitter and dry rather. Still the whiskey taste in this one is nice. Iím a little disappointed. 7 4 8 3 15

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Sampled at Borefts Beer Festival @ De Molen, Bodegraven. Hazy dark orange color, nice lightly off-white head. Smell sweet, wood, BA. Taste bitter, whisky, wood, slightly something roasty. Lightly sticky texture, warming alcohol. Medium to full body. Very nice.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle @ home. Aroma is huge sweet malt, loads of fruit, but itís nothing compared to the sweet vanilla and wood jack daniels. Which I like.
Flavour is not as sweet at one would expect, the wood gives it some bitterness as well, as do the hops, strong but fitting jd, nice round malt sweetness. Great stuff.

4.2 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
33 cl bottle from De Bierkoning @ home. Gusher, alas. Murky amber to brown color. Overfoaming, off white. But then: fantastic aroma of JD/whiskey, oakwood, vanilla, caramel, sweet fruit. Flavor is sweet, sticky toffee, sweet fruit. Pretty strong alcohol feel, quite full body, syruppy. Finishes with more whiskey, a bit of ash, a slight bitterness. Love this.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Barleywines are hit or miss. The caramel and plum sweetness is accentuated by the Jack Daniels aging. Vanilla notes and smooth throughout. Tried at BBF, 2011.

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
33cl Bottle from De Bierkoning. ABV 10.5%. Gushed out of the bottle. Cloudy amber colour, big foamy white head. Aroma of sweet bourbon, sweet malts, lots of vanilla, ripe fruits, really nice. Flavour is rather sweet, thick, malty, fruity, vanilla, bourbon, bit of wood, nice bitter malty finish. Fullbodied, firm carbonation. Great barleywine, not overly sweet.

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20
33cl bottle from De Molen. Dark amber with small head. Nose of vanilla, whisky, barley, peat/jack daniels. Mouthfeel is quite "flat" because of the low carbonation. Taste: vanilla, caramel malts, slight bitterness. Aftertaste is bittersweet. Very nice!

Cask@GBBF2012. Deep amber colour with no head. Aroma is sweetr malts, some sweet hops along with some whisky sweetness as well. Also mild vanilla. Flavour is the same in a very nice balance, although a bit more alcohol can be found in the flavour.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
From the Brewery. 33cl. Pours Gassy, foam receeds. Moderate JD notes on the nose, good wood over the palate with the barley wine. Thinner than expected, far more carbonation. Left to sit whilst getting on with some stuff on the web, sipped slowly.
Impressive, for drinking, not a hot gluey mess, although I do like those too. Impressed.
