4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20 bogus (91) - Utrecht, - NOV 18, 2011
33cl bottle from De Molen. Dark amber with small head. Nose of vanilla, whisky, barley, peat/jack daniels. Mouthfeel is quite "flat" because of the low carbonation. Taste: vanilla, caramel malts, slight bitterness. Aftertaste is bittersweet. Very nice!
3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 dreadnord (323) - Castel Volturno, ITALY - APR 13, 2012
Pours light brown/dark amber with no head, merely air bubbles from a vigorous pour. Nose is bready, cheese, grass and some light vanilla woody fragrance. Taste is bitter with a little bit of sweet. Big whisky booze in the mouth. Heavy body, creamy with a long aftertaste.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 rand (820) - SWITZERLAND - APR 7, 2012
Bottle 33 cl from erzbierschof.ch. Coppery orange muddy beer, without foam nor crackling. Aromas of Whiskey, wood, fruity esters, roasted toffy, spicy hop. The taste is unctuous, heavily malted, liquor-like, points of acidity and notes of Whiskey, wood, maple syrup, vanilla and a present citrusy bitterness. Heavy but voluptuous.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 curly (2352) - Seattle (Newcastle), Washington, USA - APR 4, 2012
Had at Hard Liver. Light hazy gold. Aroma of light barrel, toffee, citrus. Taste of whiskey, sweet malts, light citrus bitterness. Whiskey barrel is not overpowering.
3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Smurf2055 (400) - Seattle, Washington, USA - MAR 29, 2012
On tap at Brouwer’s Hard Liver.
Pours slightly cloudy with minimal head, light orange color. Smell is fruity, malty, flowery, very nice sweetness. Taste is somewhat bitter, dry, malt, bit of alcohol. Lighter bodied. Oaky vanilla is a bit faint. Decent.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 MaartenRF10 (520) - Wageningen, NETHERLANDS - MAR 20, 2012
Bottle @home Hazy dark amber with no head worth to be mentioned. Aroma is barley wine with whiskey, some wood and peat. I’m not really fond of the body and carbonation. Body seems a bit low for a 10.5% beer and carbo...don’t know. It’s not very sweet, bit bitter and dry rather. Still the whiskey taste in this one is nice. I’m a little disappointed.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 magdalar (475) - Zurich, SWITZERLAND - MAR 12, 2012
33cl bottle.
Pours a dark hazy orange with a tiny white head.
Smells exactly like Jack Daniels, with a dash of a hop profile to tell you otherwise.
Tastes reminiscent of JD; a syrupy medium-bitter corn-syrup-sweetness, with some fruity aspects as well.
It’s quite interesting.
2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 mcberko (2475) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - MAR 4, 2012
On tap for Hard Liver ’12, pours an opaque orange with virtually no head. Aroma of feet, JD barrels and hay - quite muted on the nose. Flavour pf JD barrels upfront with tons of booze and feet - dominated by the barrel and booze, and quite muted otherwise. Not so well-crafted.
3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 trevor211 (991) - Seattle, Washington, USA - MAR 3, 2012
On tap at Brouwer’s Hard Liver ’12. Pours light orange, nearly flat. There’s a really nice sour gueuze note on the nose, with plenty of bourbon. The flavor follows suit. It’s rather flat, but very smooth for 10%. Not bad at all.
4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 dEnk (1841) - Den Haag, NETHERLANDS - MAR 1, 2012
Bottle @ home. Aroma is huge sweet malt, loads of fruit, but it’s nothing compared to the sweet vanilla and wood jack daniels. Which I like.
Flavour is not as sweet at one would expect, the wood gives it some bitterness as well, as do the hops, strong but fitting jd, nice round malt sweetness. Great stuff.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 madmitch76 (6246) - , Essex, ENGLAND - DEC 28, 2011
23rd September 2011 Borefts Beer Festival 3. Cloudy brown beer, tiny cream coloured head. Light crispish and semi dry palate. Some toffee malt. Minerals. The JD is quite light. A little woody vanilla. Finishes crisp and dry. Very drinkable barleywine.
