Beese (1783) - Watford, Hertfordshire, ENGLAND - SEP 2, 2014
Draught at GBBF 2014. Poured a clear amber, with a massive, dense off white head. Huge aroma of caramel, Belgian yeast esters, sticky fruit and bourbon. Really smooth mouth feel. Rich complex flavour of dark rum, candy sugar, treacle and big malt. Finish was grain, straw and warming booze.

33cl bottle from saveur-biere.com A deep amber body with a quickly retaining off white head. On the nose, there is a huge bouquet of flavours arising from the malts and the barrel. Intense aromas of dried raisins, roasted nuts(almond), vanilla, sugars, toasted oak, and mild coconut. On the mouth, intense sweetness arising from the malty character, dried fruits, vanilla, raisins and butterscotch. The beer is dense and highly liquorish and sticky in nature. The finish is long, sweet and malty. An excellent balance between the sweetness and choosing the right barrel for ageing resulting in a high caliber barrel aged barley wine.

A reddish brown beer with a weak and blond head. The nose is sweet, portwine, raisins, dried fruits, fruitfcake, some dry wood and hint of alcohol. Enjoyable aroma even the strong sweetness but luckily that isnít too sugary. Taste is also sweet, raisins, dates, portwine, some warming alcohol after the beginning. In the end the barrel dries too much of sweetness with wood. Full bodied, not sticky, almost without carbonation. Palate is as it should be, a rich. Sweet beer but also with lots of nuancees, tastefull. For lust of sweet.

(Emelisse White Label Barley Wine 2014 Makers Mark BA) Bottle 330 ml at home, poured into a snifter, ABV 12% Deep red colour on the body, quite clear, with one finger of off-white to tan head, good density, better retention, leaving light lacing on the glass. Aroma of bourbon, alcohol, vanilla, wood, ripe dark fruits after a swirl of the glass but otherwise not so notable, as the bourbon aroma covers most. The same applies to the taste, lots of bourbon and vanilla, very sweet. Wood but lighter, on the other hand more fruity now. Very good! Medium body, soft carbonation. Great barley wine, so tasty. Ideal sipper.

On tap @ Haandfest 2014. You can just see how thick this is in the glass. Swirling it, the small white bubbles just slowly rises like a file that sticking in gelly. The color of the beast is deep golden and itís light blurry in the glass. A head it also has thatís off-white and lacing. Fruity nose with lots of sweet glazed fruits. Sticky and peachy in a way. Nice. Tastes nice also. Really nice and powerful! A bit grainy at first and itís really giving you hefty warmth on the inside on your lungs. Sticky and superb thick on the mouthfeel and itís just about average on the bubbles. Sweet and slightly sticky with a strong malt sweetness, some vanilla and mild wood. Quite delicious one but I doubt I could drink lots of this in one setting. My sampler kept me occupied long enough. 24.05.2014

Bottle 33 cl. Pours a clear orange with a small white to off-white head and an aroma of whiskey, alcohol, caramel, roasted malts, vanilla, overripe fruits and some slight hops. The taste is medium sweet, with some alcohol and a mediumlong bitter finish. Really nice, allthough it lacks some complexity.

Keg at GBBF. Clear golden orange with a lasting fine white head. Aroma is lovely sweet, caramel, candy apple toffee. Flavour is lovely rounded nutty caramel. Light tangy jammy berry. Full and rounded. Warming alcohol, but hides the alcohol well. Palate is sweet and smooth. Superb beer.

Bottle: Served in a shaker: Small beige head/lacing on top of an almost clear orange amber colored beer. Aromas of vanilla, butter, wood, light bourbon, light malt tone, cream, resin, ripe (yellow) fruit and some marzipan. Flavours of bitters, ripe (yellow) fruits, some bourbon, some wood, bitters, malts, cream, herbs, light vanilla, resin, some hops, light soap/sweet flower tint, some light caramel and light spices. Aftertaste is a mix of prunes, resin, bourbon, malts, vanilla and bitter with a light warm tint. Low carbo, oily silky mouthfeel, medium to full bodied and a oily thicker texture. Even though the time on the Barrels was shorter than usual (as Kees told me), the beer is fabulous balanced ans smooth oily/silky. Very enjoyable beer!
