3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 flip_soeperman (267) - NETHERLANDS - APR 17, 2012
smoke, nuts, roasty, black, cloudy, minimal head, brown foam, medium sweetness, medium bitterness, full body, slick feel, soft carbonation, long finish, Smokiness, malt sweetness and hops bitterness are very balanced, although the sweetness and bitterness are use to fight the smokiness as this is very strong. Smells like a islay

The earthy, peaty sting of Aardbeg mixed with the coffee and chocolate of their imperial stout. Bitter, with an uncompromising smokiness. Stings a bit, but very enjoyable. Tried with Dave at the brewery in April, 2012.

Smell moderately malty, lightly chocolate, hints of grapes, hints of raisin, hints of plum, port, slightly alcohol. Taste malts, moderate to heavy bitter, lightly alcohol, hint of chocolate, whisky and only lightly peat. Perfect balance! Long finish, medium to full body, soft carbonation.

Röstig-malziger Beginn, weich. Später sind deutliche Whiskeynoten in der Röstigkeit vorhanden, kurz alkoholisch, trocken rauchig. Rund, schon etwas speziell, die Fassnoten kommen wunderbar hervor. /11/11/13//11

Pitch black opague with no head. Smells very peaty, very smoked. Mostly peat. Tastes peat, whisky, wood and stout. Most peated beer i’ve had. I like it but i can see why others don’t. Full body, good carbo.

The aroma has chocolate, peat, roast. Black coloured with not much head. The taste is slightly bitter, bit sugary sweet, has chocolate, whisky, peat. the peat is not too overwhelming considering the Ardbeg. Nice one.

From bottle @ ACBF 2012. Peat dominating the aroma. Initial toffee, sweet malts and milk chocolate totally wiped out by the peat, The aftertaste seems to last forever. Ardbeg all over the place.
4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 Martinus (1777) - Nijmegen, NETHERLANDS - MAR 13, 2012
Jet black beer, rather big dissipating tan head. Lovely aroma of peat, whisky, smoke, roasted malts, ash and light dark chocolate. Flavour sweet malty, whisky, peat, ash, milk chocolate. Full and silky mouthfeel. Finish peated whisky and burned malts. Holy smoke, I just love it when good beer and Islay flavours are combined.
