4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle at Bruce’s Housewarming Party Tasting, London. Pours black-brown with a small, foamy beige head. Huge peat nose, all smoke and roast, with some scorched earth notes. Big sweet flavor with lots more peat, whiskey, earth, dark chocolate and dirt. Big bodied with average carbonation. Moderately warming on the finish with loads of peat, smoke, burnt grass, burnt wood. It’s a hugely oaky, peaty beer, so if you enjoy that, you’ll enjoy this beer.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle, thanks to MrHangover!
Black with a light brown head that dissolves quickly.
Huge aroma of peaty whisky, also chocolate and licorice.
Taste: peaty whisky with notes of light tar and seaweed, coffee grounds, cocoa powder, salty licorice, light grapefruit, quite bitter.
Full-bodied and smooth.
Ardbeg is my favourite distillery, and I must say that those flavours go really well with the chocolate and licorice of the base beer. I am sure the same goes for the Caol Ila version, so I will be looking for that one.

4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottled 330ml (PBF, BB 03/2015)
Opaque black color, small beige head. Beautiful Ardbeg smokey aroma. Medium-bodied. Lots of wood, islay whiskey, roastyness, alcohol. This is full of Ardberg which is not bad ... it is excellent.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottled at PBF. Black, small beige head. Huge peaty whisky aroma. Sweet and dense, really full bodied. Tar and licorice, loads of Ardbeg whisky. The whisky character is absolutely overwhelming, if it wouldn’t have been Ardbeg it would have been awkward. Now it’s like drinking an Ardbeg diluted in licorice, whish is not a bad thing.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottled@PBF2012. Pitch black colour, mediumsized brown head. Aroma is peated malts, some smoke as well as mild liquorice and mild herbal notes. Flavour is liquorice, peat and some mild smoked notes. Very balanced and nice mellow Ardbeg flavours (Though the Ardbeg notes are very evident).

2.6 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Bottle 33 cl. Courtesy of Countbeer. Pours an opaque black with a thick and creamy light brown head leaving some lacework. Thick and vicious iodine aroma from the peated barrel atop the roasted malts. Rich body, heavy roast, ashtray and again a shitload of nasty iodine and tar. Roasty bitter finish. Another beer that didn’t convince me of the greatness of peated beers. To me it’s really just ruining a great base beer. 240712

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
UPDATED: AUG 25, 2013 Bottle at Bruce’s Housewarming Tasting. It pours dark brown, with a thin beige head. The nose is medicinal, Savlon/TCP, antiseptic, peat, smoke and oak. The taste is roasted malt, caramel, medicinal, smoked peat, raisin, currant, fig, oak and blueberry, with an alcoholic finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. OK, but not a great marriage of whisky and beer....

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle @ Bruce’s Housewarming Tasting. Deep brown with a tiny tan head. The nose is strong, strong smokey islay whiskey. Plenty of peat, smokey wood and vanilla. Notes of vomit. The taste is strong, rough smoke and peat. Some chocolate. A bit antiseptic. The body actuallly feels pretty light for an RIS. Overall, I found the peat notes from the ardberg BA to overpower this beer. Not very clever.
