Bottle (330 ml). Black with a small ring of beige foam. Aroma is heavily peated with tobacco, light chocolate and caramel. Taste is also heavily peated with tobacco, chocolate and caramel. Full bodied. Moderate carbonation. Lingering peated finish. The good thing about the peat is that it hide the alcohol. The bad thing is that it also hide almost everything else. Balance isn’t perfect at all, but it isn’t horrible either. Really peat forward. It’s still a pretty good RIS.

Bottle at Tom?s apartment. Opaque black with thin but lacy brown foam. Aroma is really smoky, peated, but with some chocolaty notes as well, even a bit of vanilla. Taste is smoky, peaty, the strong sweet imperial stout flavors seem able to support the load however, lending some "balance" to the mix. Palate is heavy, full bodied with light-med carbonation. Quite nice once you can tame the peaty aroma.

One of my favourite beer genres, stored in barrells of my favourite whisky. High expectations! Smells of good whisky, with a lot of peat and a hint of coffee mocca. This is rich in taste, and both very powerful and very strong. The taste has much peat, dark chocolate, some coffee and of course a bit of alcohol. The dark chocolate is unfortunately overpowering the vanilla-like whisky notes I was looking forward to. But still, this is excellent.

On tap @ Six Roses, Lille - FR. Color: deep black beer with no carbonation and small brown head. Smell: roasted malt, chocolate, and coffee domination. Sugar notes and small alcohol presence. Taste: good sensation on mouth, roasted malt and sugar combination is amazing. Coffee domination with almond notes. Aftertaste: high sugar domination with coffee and malt, alcohol notes from the BA. Really nice!

Bottle. Pours a viscous black body with a small bubbly dark tan head. Heavy peat and whiskey on the nose along with roasted malts and a whiff of alcohol. Taste is peat and roast. Bitter ashy flavors, notes of tar, leather and more peat and wood. A warming finish, along with a lasting peat flavor. Fairly flat, slick on the palate and medium to full bodied. Very nice if you like Islay whiskeys.

Had this one right after the Moine BA version. Less smokey, but more towards licorice and more chewy / full bodied I think. Still has a lot of the peated earthy flavor as well. It?s a matter of personal taste which one is better. I like my stouts smoked and loved the earthy flavors of the Moine version, so I will go for that one. This one is a bit overkill for me.

33cl, as Emelisse White Label Imperial Russian Stout ’Ardbeg Barrel Aged’, new exclusive Dutch brew Anno 2012, from De Hopduvel Gent, complex Stout, smoked/roasted and slightly alcoholic/sweet, heavy, yet balanced, hazy, nearly no head, very good brew, yet expensive!
