4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 Leighton (7179) - London, ENGLAND - AUG 3, 2012
Bottle at Bruce’s Housewarming Party Tasting, London. Pours black-brown with a small, foamy beige head. Huge peat nose, all smoke and roast, with some scorched earth notes. Big sweet flavor with lots more peat, whiskey, earth, dark chocolate and dirt. Big bodied with average carbonation. Moderately warming on the finish with loads of peat, smoke, burnt grass, burnt wood. It’s a hugely oaky, peaty beer, so if you enjoy that, you’ll enjoy this beer.
4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 Borresteijn (3681) - Amsterdam, NETHERLANDS - MAY 7, 2012
33cl Bottle from De Bierkoning. Black, thin light brown head. Aroma of, well, Ardbeg whisky, peat, sweet earthy liquorice root, salty liquorice, oak, coffee. Flavour is sweet, peat, earth, light salty smoke, salty liquorice, oak, hard roasted malts, coffee, whisky presence is quite obvious in this beer, and it’s very sweet, but it’s just lovely. Medium to fullbodied, soft to flat carbonation.

33 cl bottle @ Gastropub Tuulensuu, BBE 06/2015
No head at all even though I tried to form one. Aroma is slightly sweet and rather strong on peat. Flavour is salty with peat and some licorice. Very good, this has the full Ardbeg character without the sting of alcohol or overwhelming whisky notes.
4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 visionthing (1725) - Oslo, NORWAY - MAY 31, 2013
On tap at Haand ølfestival. Pitch black with a nice, beige head. Loveley smell of Ardbeg! Peaty and smoky aroma with dark fruits, hints of licorice and dark chocolate. Full bodied with slightly soft carbonation. Medium sweet with lovely Ardbeg flavour and a smoky and peaty finish. Very well balanced and simply delicious. Excellent! (2013-05-25)

Bottle@Home. Heavily peated aroma. Black, small brown head, good lace, pours very thick. Sweet, chocolate, liqourice, coffee but mainly lots of peat. Full bodied. Not very easy going obviously. And I must admit you gotta love peated whisky. But if you do it’s a wonderful beer.

The earthy, peaty sting of Aardbeg mixed with the coffee and chocolate of their imperial stout. Bitter, with an uncompromising smokiness. Stings a bit, but very enjoyable. Tried with Dave at the brewery in April, 2012.
4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 19/20 dutchtuga (83) - Amsterdam, NETHERLANDS - SEP 6, 2012
An impressive stout. Close your eyes and you think you are smelling a fine whisky. This is a top class stout that is a delight for everyone who loves their beers above average. The body is light and the palate not too special, but the taste is a joy.
4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 n0mel (250) - FINLAND - OCT 26, 2012
Bottle. I poured quite aggressively (from high and fast) but still hardly any head. Brown in color, though. The beer is almost pitch black. No, it’s not pitch black. Light penetrates the fringe of the surface, revealing a very dark brown (almost black) color. The aroma that mostly comes through is a noticeable whiskey. The flavors are nice; some whiskey at the start, some mossy smoke and some sweetness. Mouthfeel is smooth but not creamy. Finish is a bit of bitter smoke.
The BA in this does not come through as hints; it’s very noticeable. The aroma, and to a lesser degree the flavors, of Scotch, are not my thing. But still, this is a good beer. I’m a fan of imperial stouts. Aging it in an Ardbeg cask can’t ruin it THAT badly for me!

The aroma has chocolate, peat, roast. Black coloured with not much head. The taste is slightly bitter, bit sugary sweet, has chocolate, whisky, peat. the peat is not too overwhelming considering the Ardbeg. Nice one.
