From bottle at Borefts Beer Festival 2012. Black with no head. Mostly smoked peat whiskey onthe nose but also sweet and roasted notes. Heavy ash and fireplace notes on sweet roasted flavors. Full bodied and smooth to drink but a dry mouth at the end of the lengthy finish.

Bottle. Pitch black color, beige head. Aroma of judain, peat and lots of whisky aromas. Flavor and mouthfeel are quite boozy but still very nice to drink.

On draft at Churchkey in D.C. The beer is black with a thin beige head. The aroma brings a grandiose serving of Ardbeg. For you single malt scotch aficionados, especially those who favor those great whiskeys from Islay, you will likely enjoy this. Those less inclined to sip a peaty scotch on a rainy night may find this offering harsh and offensive. The flavor offers notes of chocolate, oak, vanilla, peat, smoke. A young Ardbeg character really dominates every aspect of the beer. Some searing alcohol heat in the finish with lingering sea salt and maritime character, medium to full bodied, fairly viscous. I really enjoyed this, though this is certainly not for everybody.

Bottle from jmgreenuk - thanks John! Whoa - totally different flavour to the Wild Turkey version, but hey, I guess that’s the point eh? Duh. Dry, full of whiskey vapours like the boozy whiskey experiences of my misspent youth. Papery, inflammable quality. Slightly less beige head than the Wild Turkey. Antiseptic scent.

In brand bulb glass, pours pure black without any real head till the last bubbles float up. Smell immediately remembers you what’s on the label: the smell of peaty Ardbeg whisky combined with some sweeter notes. Tastes sweet, ending in a very long bitter finish. Aroma’s of dark chocolate mixed with whisky and some hint of peaty smoke and wood. Very light carbonisation. This makes he hunger for Ardbeg as a desert. :) Best of whisky and stout.

Bottled. A pitch black beer with a thin brown head. The aroma has smoke, whiskey, roasted malt, and soy sauce. The flavor is sweet with notes of iodine, smoke, chocolate, alcohol, roasted malt, and soy sauce, leading to a dry alcoholic finish.

Bottle from De Bierkoning. OIly black body with razorthin tan head. Nose of chocolate, malts, whiskey. Taste is dark chocolate, lots of peat and oil in there. High octane stuff. Some bitter and licorice in the finish. Very good but hardcore.

Bottled@PBF2012. Pitch black colour, mediumsized brown head. Aroma is peated malts, some smoke as well as mild liquorice and mild herbal notes. Flavour is liquorice, peat and some mild smoked notes. Very balanced and nice mellow Ardbeg flavours (Though the Ardbeg notes are very evident).

Bottle, thanks to MrHangover! Black with a light brown head that dissolves quickly. Huge aroma of peaty whisky, also chocolate and licorice. Taste: peaty whisky with notes of light tar and seaweed, coffee grounds, cocoa powder, salty licorice, light grapefruit, quite bitter. Full-bodied and smooth. Ardbeg is my favourite distillery, and I must say that those flavours go really well with the chocolate and licorice of the base beer. I am sure the same goes for the Caol Ila version, so I will be looking for that one.
