Tap at t’Arendsnest. Pitch black with a brown creamy head leaving excellent lacing. Coffee, tobacco, chocolate, dark dried fruits, roasted malts and peaty/smokey hints fill the nose invitingly. Rich roasted notes, burnt malts and whisky caress the mouth smoothly with alcohol, bitter and sweet flavors. Full body. Medium carbonation. Oily texture with a dry roasted finish. A powerfull but well balanced dring fit for a strong but fair tsar.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
22 oz bomber shared by 12% Brian. Had to pour a touch of regular RIS from Emelisse in there to boost carbonation and head, since the pour was nicely rich oily and black- but fairly flat- no head on the actual bottle. Aroma is big earthy, woody scotch barrels, not overly smokey or iodine, or saline- but some of that exists over a big fruity ester, good burnt roast, and some dark chocolate malts. Flavor is earthy, herbal, big chocolate, ashy burnt wood, light smoke, light chemical hints, toast, some toffee sweetness, chocolate, roasted barley- burnt ashy coffee, and a moderate bitter finish. Ok.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Emelisse imperial Russian stout barrel aged on tap in Amsterdam...
Pours a still winelike dark caramel/toffee pour with lighter brown
edges and a quickly dissipating head leaving nothing... Aroma is
charred malt, lightly smoked and peaty... Flavors of smoked and
charred cherry and dark fruits, sweeter with dried fruits and more
peat and char. Very big and phenolic from the booziness even moreso
than the misto. Body is of a medium bodied wine. Nice but couldn’t
take too much of it.
