found a bottle of this gem deep in my cellar, poured a dark black colour with a beige head. nose of dark roasted malts, smoke, tannis, dark bitter chocolate, salt, char, and smoke peat notes, dark espresso beans and a hint of vanilla, the whisky barrel is maybe a bit to overwelming, and the base beer is a bit lost. but it’s still really good. very full and sticky mouthfeel

330ml bottle, thanks to Benzai! Pours black with evil tan head. Big whisky aroma. Thick, slick body with a deep fiery whisky influence, perhaps a little too much for my tastes.

Bottle. Pours deep opaque black with a medium, creamy beige film head. Aroma has lots of peity malts, chocolate, light roasted. Medium carbonation, fine dry and quite creamy mouthfeel. Flavour has lots of heavy peity smoke, dry, light vinious, oak. Quite malty bitter.

33cl bottle at home from Mitra, Maarssen. Body is pitch black, head is nearly flat, good lacing. Nose is smoked wood, flavor is coal, wood, black pepper, herbs, soy sauce, smoke, toast. Medium sweet heavy roasty bitter. Finish is long lasting smoky woody roasty bitter, dried fruits, hint of salt, heavy alcohol, later quite hoppy, more and more hops. Full body, dry and sticky texture, soft carbonation. Very heavy dessert beer, not so delicious but very interesting.

Growler, ffs
Pours very black with a very small but decently well retained head and spotty lacing on the glass.

The aroma is peat, sea breeze, and most dominantly iodine. As you let the initial Islay shock settle some stout like characteristics are allowed to shine, most particularly dark chocolate & certainly some ashiness... which of course could also be from the barrel.

The flavor is dominated by the Islay barrel, so more of what we saw in the aroma, peat, smoke, saltwater, to a lesser extent iodine. But the stout element really allows these elements to integrate well. The light sweetness balances things while the espresso like roasty character plays in the background to provide some bitterness. There is a woody character that seems to be far more pronounced than is the case with most scotch dominated beers.

To be honest, the first time I tried this I was almost convinced that this was brewed with Bunnahabhain malt as opposed to just being barrel aged, that whisky is awfully dominant here.

Pours a black black k with a little brown lacing one. Aroma of a peaty whiskey. Tastes like it smells very peaty, a little smokey, a little whiskey. After taste is straight dirt (that sounds bad but it’s not) Love this beer, good winter drink.
