UPDATED: NOV 18, 2013 33cl, as Emelisse White Label Imperial Russian Stout ’Bunnahabhain Barrel Aged’, new exclusive Dutch brew Anno 2013, from De Hopduvel Gent, very complex Stout, woody/roasted and slightly smoked/alcoholic, yet not too heavy, balanced, hazy, nearly no head, very good brew, yet expensive!

No head save a cream rim over jet-black beer. Tarred seaside wooden poles; charcoal - but a tad thinnish smelling. Iodine, smoke, tar, charcoal, overroasted coffeebeans. Even a bit vanilla. Retronasal clearly Islay malt, twinned with obvious alcoholheat. Long-lasting aftertaste, as Irish coffee with the cream forgotten. Thick, onctuous, heated, leaving a sticky film. Even if I’ve had better similars, still an excellent beer to savour.

Too peaty, too much like coffee grinds. Can definitely see other people enjoying this greatly. For me, little too much

Pretty dark with brown foam head. Aroma is like a cold irish coffee. Taste is pretty strong bitter, coffee, some whiskey. Long bitter coffee aftertaste. Quite a strong taster this one. (Velp 201304)

Bottle at ABC beers Den Haag. Poured a dark crude oil like colour with a thin tan head. The aroma is alcoholic and medicinal. The flavour is big bitter, with loads of liqourice, peat and dark chocolate. It’s a little band aid medicinal too which might not be to everyone’s taste.

Bottle @ ABC Beers. Black pour, tan head. Aroma full of peat, roasted, ash, cigar, bready and some chocolate. Flavor is very bitter roasted, ashy and with a decent body. Slightly rough, but well drinkable. Lovely whisky flavors.

Black colour, red hue, slight beige head. Aroma of whisky, smoke, chocolate, bell pepper and coffee. Sweet malty flavour, wood, coffee and lots of whisky. Finish peat, wood and vanilla.
(From 33cL bottle @ WW II tasting, Amsterdam. Courtesy of Harmen, thanks!)

Bottle@ WWT II. Pitch black color, headless pour. Aroma is very peaty, smokey. Flavor is medicinal, very sweet, definitely some whisky, but overly peated. But unbalanced, but still quite decent.

Countbeer (4483) - Best of E-Town mit ein Brauhaus, NETHERLANDS - APR 6, 2013
Bottle: Small ashy tan beige foamy head/lacing on top of a pitch black colored beer. Aromas of earth, medicinal/iodine, peat, some roast and wood. Flavours of earth, spices, stone, pepper peel, roast, peat, tar and just lots of earth! Aftertaste is spicy, earthy and roast. Special. Low carbo, soft mouthfeel, full body and a light creamy texture. Balanced, earthy, full of new flavours. This is another yet very good executed beer of Emelisse. Chapeau!
