Surprisingly easy to drink for a white label, it’s not as thick. Notes of whiskey and chocolate. Decent irs.

33cl, as Emelisse White Label Imperial Russian Stout ’Glen Elgin Barrel Aged’, new exclusive Dutch brew Anno 2011, from De Hopduvel Gent, complex sweet Stout, roasted/alcoholic and slightly spicy/malty, heavy, yet balanced, hazy, nearly no head, very good brew, yet expensive!

33cl bottle @ Arendsnest Amsterdam, shared with Dutchdrebus. Pitch black opague color, small off-white to brown head that diminishes quite fast. Smell coffee, alcohol, whisky, wood, oak and a light sweetness. Taste dark and roasted, maybe even burned malts, alcohol and coffee plus sweetish-chocolate. Medium to full body, low carbo.

The smoothest of the bunch, the imperial stout is not overwhelmed by the cask. Smoky, but in a more discreet way.

Deep black with no head. Aroma is licorice, oak, whiskey. Full bodied, slightly slick on the palate, no noticeable carbonation, slightly boozy finish. Taste is whiskey, licorice, chocolate, dates. Nice but a little boozy, should improve with age.

330 ml bottle @ Gastropub Tuulensuu, Tampere. BBE 06/2015.
Pours a dark brown, almost black colour with a small foamy head. Aroma of roasted malts, coffee, salty licorice and cream. Flavour of roasted malts, strong salty licorice, caramel, wood and minerals. Full bodied, thick mouthfeel and a long, dry, salty, roasty finish. Not much flavours from the barrel. Strong saltiness is still present as on the original Emelisse IRS.

Bottle 33 cl. Pours black without a head and with an aroma of sweet and roasted malts, chocolate and ripe cherries. The taste is full-bodied and dominated by roasted malts with hints of whiskey, espresso, toffee, overripe fruits and ice-cream. Very nice!

Bottle, thanks to MrHangover! Black with a porous light brown head. Quite light aroma with fruity whisky, some alcohol. Taste: whisky, red berries like rowan berries, chocolate, light licorice, sourish like hard lemon candies, dry finish. Full-bodied. Unbalanced, but quite nice. It might do well with some aging.

330ml bottle from Bieresgourmet.be

Pours pitch black with virtually no head at all. Aroma of sweet vanilla whisky notes, wood, oak, roasted malts and sweet sugary notes. Taste is smooth and oily with some sweet vanilla oaky notes and hints of whiskey. Finish is smooth and silky, no carbonation and only light roastiness. Alcohol and whisky warms in the finish. Smooth barrel-aged IS.
