33cl bottle @ Arendsnest Amsterdam, shared with Dutchdrebus. Pitch black opague color, small off-white to brown head that diminishes quite fast. Smell coffee, alcohol, whisky, wood, oak and a light sweetness. Taste dark and roasted, maybe even burned malts, alcohol and coffee plus sweetish-chocolate. Medium to full body, low carbo.

Black colour with a beige head. Whisky and coffee nose. Rich complex flavour. A lot of everything. Whisky, espresso, caramel, chocolate. Nice!

A very dark black body and creamy tan head. Rich matly aroma, milk chocolate, bourbon, sticky fruit and some alcohol. Rich taste, but the barrel aging makes it a bit thin. Bit milky mouthfeel. Sweaty overall feel. Alcoholic aftertaste. A very good base beer but the barrel aging doesn’t improve it for me. (33cl bottle)

Bottled. Poured very near black with just about no head sticking around. The aroma picked up toasty, slightly burnt, excellent whiskey over dark chocolate, ashy malts, and some licorice.. quite nice. The flavor found more sweet-ish whiskey, oak, and deep vanilla notes than anything else, with a bed of rich chocolates and charred black malts beneath.. back to the tasty whiskey over chocolate and a kiss of vanilla bean on the long, peppery finish. Medium-plus bodied with very little carbonation on the palate.. kind of a slick feel to it.. some very good components, but the barrel didn’t fully integrate with the base beer.

(bottle) pours a deep black colour with a brownish tinge and no head. spicy aroma of floral hops, plums, cherries and lingonberries, caramel, chocolate fudge, tobacco and a hint of green apples. flavour is mostly the same, with a slightly diminished fruitiness, lots of caramel, treebark, dark chocolate, a light hint of alcohol and lots of oak in the slightly empty, medium-bitter finish. very thick body with almost no carbonation.

Misses gas... dark brown, ok head but a bit low on carbonation. Needs a bit of a boost at the taste also. Malts, hops, roasted coffee. ok.

UPDATED: SEP 24, 2012 Bottle, at HaandFestival 2012. It’s a black one, or at least dark, dark brown, and it’s topped by a minimal-sized, dark beige head. Chocolate, some coffee and roasted malts and a little touch of alcohol in the aroma. It’s rather sweetish on the palate, oily, smooth and full-bodied, with chocolate and some coffee and roasted malts. Lightly warming on the palate. A bit one dimensional maybe, but damn enjoying. Rating: 9-4-9-4-17-4.3. 120505

Bottle. A dark brown one, almost clear, and with a small, light tan head. Rather boozy nose with roasted malts, coffee and some soy sauce. Roasted, coffee-ish flavor with some salty soy sauce. Caugh medicine. Full-bodied, lightly warming, quite smooth. Lasting finish. Well, it’s a fine beer, but sort of one dimensional, and not my favorite. I can’t really put my finger on it though. Looking back at my previous rating, it puzzles me even more. 120817
