4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 sebletitje (4413) - Enghien, - DEC 27, 2011
Bottle sample kindly of Kees, headbrewer @ Emelisse. Holy smoke, this beer rocks!

Bottle. [thanks noize/skortila/caesar]
Deep brown with no real head. Aroma has sweetness, oak, vinious, mild roasted. Low carbonation, oily and fat mouthfeel. Flavour has lots of roasted malts, oak dryness, whiskey, sweet, light vanilla and some sharp vinious. Not a perfect barrel aging.

The smoothest of the bunch, the imperial stout is not overwhelmed by the cask. Smoky, but in a more discreet way.

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20 ajax25g (14) - Bruxelles, BELGIUM - APR 19, 2012
33cl bottle from De Hopduvel in Gent. Pours dark oily black with literally no head. Complex nose of tobacco, smoke, almond liqueur, and maybe some leather. Full bodied with almost no carbonation. Taste is pretty boozy, with lots of oak up front. Later on you get prunes, chocolate, and port. Has a great long aftertaste of figs and tobacco. This young bottle was pretty hot, so I think sitting on this for a year or two would be wise. A bit more carb would be nice, but this is still an awesome beer! I salute the brewers at Emelisse.

The whiskey flavor builds throughout the taste. Coffee and whiskey characterize the aroma. Sweetness of chocolate cake at the end. Tried with Dave at the brewery in April, 2012.
4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 Countbeer (1943) - Best of Eindhoven ohne Brauhaus, NETHERLANDS - APR 9, 2012
Bottle:
Brown pour, black beer, no head, just some brown bubbles, disappears quick.
Smell is very good: smooth oaky whiskey notes mixed with coffee, peat, hint of liquorice, dark candy sweets, light hint of tar and the slightest hint of something vanilla. Good balanced smell with lot of dark stuff, though not smoked or heavily roasted.
Taste liquorice, coffee, roasted/burned oak, bitter, liquorice wood, espresso, creamy buttery mocha flavours.
Aftertaste of roasted grains, espresso, bitter, liquorice drenched herbs.
Low to no carbo, soft mouthfeel, full body and light oily texture.
Good beer, better than the winter Jack Daniels edition.
