Bottle @ ACBF 2012: black with a small tanned head, smell is chocolate, mocha, sweet with a touch of malt, taste is sweet, chocolate, mocha, cocoa, milk chocolate, blew & black berries, chocolate milk, coffee, slight roast & bitter in finish, creamy, sweetish, sweet malty & fruity but I appear to be the only one here who didn’t pick out the sorachi ace, at least not the sweet blue cheese I was expecting, maybe subtly, still excellent

Bottle from Bierkoning, many thanks. Black color with medium espresso beige head. Maltz aroma with floral hops. Roasted malt, milk chocolate, citrus hops. Very interesting coffee bitter finish with citric hop bitter after taste. Alcohol is dangerously hidden. Extremely tasty beer.

pitch black with a thick head. Good lacing. Nutty, roasty aroma. Great sorachi ace flavour that melds well with the huge malty blackbone. Great.

Bottled, almost a year old. Dark color, short brown head. Aroma is of a good RIS: chocolat, roasted malts, molasses. The sorachi ace brings some minty freshness to it, actually a wonderful combination. Balancing is very delicate here I guess, so might be at the perfect age at the moment. Did I see they tried a coconut version of this one as well? I can imagine the mix, as the hops give it a coconutty feel as well. In taste there’s a wonderful mix of sweet biscuity malt and robust chocolat, with a velvet blanket of mint on top. Stunningly good. Just the right amount of sweetness for me. I remember I tried this beer fresher as well and then the minty notes of the sorachi ace were a bit too present in the aroma and bitterness. But with a small year of developing, it’s absolutely amazing.

subcombicio (95) - marghera, ITALY - APR 1, 2013
Buonissima abbinata tra una eccezzionale imperial stout e una dose di luppolo sorachi che si equilibra in modo perfetto con il gusto intenso del malto. Questo luppolo dà una nota burrosa alla birra che la rende unica nel suo genere.

No head, motor-oil coloured & -viscous liquid. Cheesy nose, with a fresh herb as coriander leaf (cilandro) or bramblebush. Hint at camphor, but very dosed - intriguing. Blue cheese, black coffee, brown cacao powder, purple brambleberries, white mushrooms and fresh herbs - a flavourexplosion complex and layered as few, but yet perfectly in balance. Rich, full-bodied, warming and viscous. This is brainrackingly good. Kees, wow!

Bottle at ACBF 2012. Black or extremely dark brown colour with creamy golden head. Aroma is creaminess and booze, sour dairy, just a hint of bitterness. Lots of roast and chocolate. Tastes like a creamy desert, chocolate, sourness, caramel, maybe a a touch of tiramisu. Beautifully smooth and creamy. Can’t taste the strength. Absolutely lovely!

Countbeer (2853) - Best of Eindhoven ohne Brauhaus, NETHERLANDS - JUL 21, 2012
Bottle: Small medium creamy light brown tan ish head on top of a pitch black beer. Smell creamy thicker liquorice, some bitter roasted malts, hint of dark dark chocolate, hint of creamy oatmeal, cream, hint of coffee. Very nice thicker round and creamy smell. Taste is creamy, bitter, some hop notes as in bitterness and light hoppy fruit but more flower tints, spices, floral, nice balanced round liquorice, dark chocolate, some oatmeal, light vanilla. Aftertaste is nice bitter, some creamy roasted malts, floral grass tones and some hop fruity chocolate notes and some bitter liquorice hints. Low carbo, soft almost silky mouthfeel, full body and an oily texture. Very good beer: soft and creamy, very well balanced and has a good full round body. Delicious!
