Porter, probably the oldest style of English beer, is a dark and dry mellow beer with some hop character.

500ml bottle. Pours a deep ruby-flashed black, with a large beige head which lasts well although does not leave much lacing. Strong roasted malt notes of mocha and hazelnut mix with a slight whiff of brine in the aroma. Very mild sweet citrus hops up front lead into hazelnut and sweet dark chocolate. There is a briny flavour towards the finish, but mixed with milk chocolate to create an interesting sweet-salty effect. This is a decent porter. Itís not outstanding, but it does tick all the boxes.

Pours pitch black with a tan head that lingers before getting shy and retreating to the edges. Aroma is of earthy hops and cocoa powder. Some toasty/breadiness. Flavor starts with Light caramel moving to toast, chocolate, and roasty grains. Carbonation is higher than I prefer, but itís in a bottle, not on the hand pump. Easy drinking with itís light/medium body and off-dry finish. A well balanced porter.

Earthy caramel features. Looks like a Porter with light bitter taste and finish. As good overall as my standard for this ale type, Cooperís Stout, but as more expensive , not so good value. Will try again.

Black with a beige head. Aroma is slightly burnt malts, chocolate, earth, with a touch of vanilla. Medium bodied. Flavor is dirty earth hops, malt, roasted coffee, chocolate. Slightly dry finish with a little sweetness. Nothing complex with this one but a good brew.

Souvenir peu agréable de cette bière pour ma part. Trop de goût grillé. Peu de corpulence. Bof.

500ml bottle with a Best Before date of 30 July 2014. Pours clear but very dark brown body covered by a fine, light brown head that has very good retention and lacing. Aroma: appealing and rich smell of dark roasted malts with some spicy hops. Flavor: not complex, but very good flavor with a generous dose of dark roasted malts and a hint of molasses. Only a trace of burnt grain. Feel: Medium-full body with lively carbonation for style. O: worthy of a UK brewery, this is one of the best NZ porters Iíve had.

The head is ok, the body black. It smells darkmalty, roasty, less hoppy ok. The taste is darkmalty, roasty, bit coffee, maltaromatic, malty-roasty-bitter. Overall ok.

Med brown. Not much head. Aroma is a bit fudgey. Chocolatey palate with soft nutty notes. Good, desserty porter.

At the risk of repeating myself for the millionth time, Emersonís beers are not silicone be-titted, sequin g-string wearing, phoney loudmouth whores...NO! They are subtle, smooth, classy, restrained and they really feel like youíve been drinking them your whole life. I so hope Lion Nathan doesnít fuck with this "brand".

On tap in Dunedin, NZ. Black beer with off white head. Nose and taste is chocolatey roasted dark malts and prominent coffee. Pleasant smooth mouthfeel with mild dry hop bitterness. Not too sweet. Medium bodied. Nice
