COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This is a traditional English old ale and very true to type. A strong beer, full bodied with an initial deceptive sweetness, but with hops enough to give a dry finish. It is definitely a beer to be savoured rather than quaffed. It slips down like velvet and makes an ideal partner for rich fruitcake and similar seasonal fare. Available August.

Bottle 500ml. Great beer. Aromas of grass, flowers, apple, and caramel. Sweet start, taken over by long-lasting bitterness. Velvety palate, medium-full body. Orange colour, with a creamy long-lasting head.

Bottle. Reddish/amber color with a nice lasting frothy, white foam. Brilliant winelike aroma with a nutty and fruity maltscent. Flavor is caramel, medium sweetness with hints of fruit licorice and a bitter finish. One of my favorite beers.

2001 vintage: Fruity, nutty, spicy(cinnamon, nutmeg)aroma. CLoudy amber-orange colour with a thin white head. Great complexity; a fruitcake sweetness(with hints of cherry and raspberry), then some spiciness, and finally a pleasantly lingering, bitter finish. Medium body. Not as dark or full bodied as most American holiday/old ales that I have tried but flavour-full indeed. Very nice!! ****re-rate****** for 2002 vintage: Not as complex or developed as the previous vintage. I’m sure, however, that it is just a matter of time before this one develops the plethora of fantastic flavours that I enjoyed in the 2001.

rich and full-on but beautifully balanced, like an american barleywine but mellower and deeper. rich toasty amber malt then heaps of spicy hop flavour then dates/prunes/sherbet/cherry/strawberry/apple from the yeast then an attack of bitterness, but round and soft rather than harsh or tangy. perhaps a bit on the sweet side - i'm gunner try aging some for motelpogo and my thirtieth in a cuppler years and see if it dries out nicely.

Needs to warm to get the most out of it. Once it warms, it has a port aroma and flavor. The port in the flavor is not too overwhelming, and it has raisins in the background. Very good. The appearance is a brandy color and quality (it has some alcohol viscosity), and there’s some alcohol in the finish, along with some sweetness.

Pours a tall and solid off-white head on a hazy dark amber colored body. Delicious malty and hoppy aroma with sweet caramel tones. Very flavorfull with lots of malt and dark fruit. Lighly spicy also with a dry and hoppy long lasting finish. Really good!

Cloudy amber colour with a loose uneven head. Floral hop aroma, strong in the mouth (in a good way) and sweet.
