COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This is a traditional English old ale and very true to type. A strong beer, full bodied with an initial deceptive sweetness, but with hops enough to give a dry finish. It is definitely a beer to be savoured rather than quaffed. It slips down like velvet and makes an ideal partner for rich fruitcake and similar seasonal fare. Available August.

UPDATED: MAR 18, 2007 Bottle -- Pours a deep amber/brown with a vaguely off-white head, which lasts OK and leaves a little lacing. Aroma and flavour are malty and hoppy (like the bottle says). Delightful creamy mouthfeel. Another supurb beer from Emersons.

500ml bottle, vintage 2010 320A. Clear rich amber hue, very large light beige foamy head slowly settles to a small creamy head, excellent lacing. Very nice diverse mixture of aromas - malty, caramel, butterscotch, smokey, woody, marmalade, chocolate, Christmas cake, spice, yeast, vanilla. Tastes nice - moderate to strong sweet, moderate bitter, a faint touch of sour. Smooth and velvety, softly carbonated, oily creamy sticky texture, long bitter slightly astringent finish. Very nice indeed. Had the last few mouthfuls with some Christmas cake and yummmm, great food match.

500 ml bottle Aroma: malty with a hint of grapefruit and chocolate Appearance: Clear gold brown with lots of head, starts out rocky and big and condenses to a thick foam with a thick lacing. Taste: A tad sweet but mostly bitter with a tinge of sourness. Palate: medium bodied creamy but slightly sticky texture with lively carbonation and a longish finish. Overall: NIce beer. It is malty, hoppy and rich so the label don’t lie. Bottle fermented and I think it shows.

Bright grassy nose, rounded by alcohol. Lovely hazy brown ale with a frothy head, quite bitter with a light sour undertone. Not a lot of sweetness. Lively on the tounge, long long bitter aftertaste. High alcohol content gives the whole ale a warm sensation. Lovely brown ale, went well with ham and cheese, one I’d certainly look out for in future.

Bottle, 11C. 2009 vintage. Hazy copper, loose inch of light beige head, a decent amount of which is retained all the way down. Aroma is mainly grass with some cheese rind, wood, dried apricots, apples and white pepper. Deep fruit sweetness with fresh and dried red berries; some vinous character; some grapefruit sourness and spicy/ pine bitterness. I liked it a lot coldish and fresh. I suppose warmer and older might work too.

From a 500ml bottle on 8/4/2011. Pours a dark golden orange colour with a decent head. Has a pleasant aroma of sweet caramel malt and brown sugar. The flavour is pretty much the same, with some toffee and marmalade thrown in. The malty sweetness is quite pronounced, but it has enough hops at the end to balance things out nicely. The palate is quite creamy. All up, this a very enjoyable, well put together ale.

Bottle. 2009 Vintage. Bright, hazy amber pour with a beige head that lasts well. Aroma is malty and hoppy and has notes of orange, caramel, yeast and apricot. Flavour is similar: malt, toffee and citrus stand out and there are also hints of raisins, stonefruit and yeast. Smooth mouthfeel with a bit of prickly carbonation and a long finish that starts out sweet and ends quite bitter. A very good ale, will have to get a couple of bottles to cellar for a year or two.

Bottle. Bought @ Billund Vine. Pours a clear beautiful amber with a big bubbly off white head. Diminishes slowly. Aroma is heavy with toffee, oak and some dried fruits. Powerful, creamy mouthfeel. Wonderful flavour. Sweet - Toffee, milk chocolate, spices, bitter hops, oakyness. And a slight warming alcohol. Complex and great.

a very boozy beer. Lots of whisky and port on the nose and in the mouth, accompanied by dark fruit and candi sugar sweetness. Body was a little thin, but otherwise top notch. A nice winter warmer.
