COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This is a traditional English old ale and very true to type. A strong beer, full bodied with an initial deceptive sweetness, but with hops enough to give a dry finish. It is definitely a beer to be savoured rather than quaffed. It slips down like velvet and makes an ideal partner for rich fruitcake and similar seasonal fare. Available August.

Bottled. Sweet fruity, hoppy and peppery aroma. Hazy, orange color, beige head, good lace. Sweet, bitter, hoppy, pepper, fruity and a hint of sourness. Very nice beer. Thanks eczematic.

Brown/red colour. Quite heavy brew. A great example of the lovely style of Old Ale, with a lot of nuances. Hazelnut and raisin flavour. Quite dry and hoppy finish.

Fruity, malty aroma no head. Sweet flavour finishes with intense bitterness, guess that means it’s well balanced. Alcohol was well hidden. Simple bottle and label earns an extra appearance point.

50 cl bottle. Yeast at the bottom. Dark brown colour with a small head. Great aroma of sweet caramel, malt and hints of toffee and chocolate. Fine flavour of maltness and caramel with hints of hops, very tasty and with a great smooth finish.

A white head, which gets very thin, yet lasts. Leaves a good lace. Dark orange in color. Spicy aroma with pepper notes. Has cake and biscuit hints as well. A bit dry in texture. Soft, light-to medium. Lots of species in the flavor at first. Then gets bitterer. Hoppy, a bit sour.

Bottle.50cl. Right of the bat it has a nice aroma, dence and dark fruits, heavy cloying sweetness, medium bitterness, lightly sour. Very good old ale.

Bottle. Pours dark brown with a creamy white head. Beautiful aroma of caramel, chocolate, plums, raisins and spice. Fantastic flavour too - dark fruit, chocolate, spice all compliment each other. Smooth mouthfeel and enough bitterness to balance the sweet malt and fruit out nicely. Another classic beer from a great brewer. Big thanks to Jonno for sharing!

2007 Vintage, pretty pleased to find it! Pours ruddy red/brown with a creamy head that seems to build from nothing. Nose has rich malt, caramel & toffee in abundance with apricot that you come to expect from english ale yeast. Palate is really malty but has plenty of carbonation so delivers a very creamy mouthfeel. Finishes with abv popping up and some hop spice. Would definitely recommend stashing some away for a few years. Is a completely different beer to what it once was, in a good way!

50cl Bottle brought from N-Z by a collegue. Thanks Gijs! Dark amber colour, creamy off-white head. Aroma of caramel, some alcohol and hops. Flavour is initially slightly sweet, caramel, malts, some spiciness, going towards a nice dry bittersweet and slightly alcoholic finish. Medium bodied. Good stuff. Reminds me of a less fullbodied version of Great Divide Hibernation Ale.
