COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
There is a first time for everything, and this is our first attemt at this great summer beer. Emmett's American Wheat is a lively brew, packed with subtle flavors of orange blossom honey, a touch of fresh baked bread, and delicate herbal hops. Wheat malt makes up a good percentage of this recipe, and adsa refreshing tartness to the finish. I can see myself sitting in the beer garden sipping on of these while wondering why we waited so long to brew this beer. Better late than never!

Draft at Downer’s Grove. Served with no slice in a generous wheat glass. Clean light summertime wheat beer smell. Half-inch, lacy head above a slightly hazy golden body. Firmly on the American side of the style: no banana or spicy esters; just a good light, bready malt, accented by a basic hop bitterness. Midway through the glas, I start to get just a touch of citrus from the hops, like noble Germans accented by some C&C. A little gassy, but when it is, I get a taste of freshly milled wheat and malt, plus more hops. A fine complement to the currently hot weather.

11/16/2007: I must have been thoroughly unimpressed with Emmett’s American Wheat since all my notes say is sour! That doesn’t mean good as far as a beer of this style is concerned!

Sample (draught; 5.0% ABV) at Emmett’s Ale House in Oswego, IL. Rating #10 for this beer.

A light american wheat. Typical pale straw color, light hints of clove and banana, but subdued and watery.

Pour is clear golden yellow with a thin white head...lightly sweet grainy aroma...lightly spiced and wheaty, but an overpowering malty grainy flavor dominated this...

This draft brew from the brew pub poured a small sized head of foamy fine to medium sized white colored bubbles that were fully diminished and left behind a softly carbonated straw yellow colored body and a poor lacing. The mild aroma was malty and wheat. The crisp and clean mouth feel was tingly at the start and at the finish with a thickening in the aftertaste. The mild flavor contained notes of malt med hops wheat and was mildly astringent. A decent one but not one that I would consider buying again.

(Tap) Pours a yellow color with a light haze. Aroma of light grains. Taste is similar, with some citrus and a light body. Ehhh, not too much going on with this one. Clearly a brew to satisfy the masses.

Had this one on draught at the ale house in Oswego, Illinois. Glowing, clear yellow poour with a thin, bubby white head, very slightly sweet and grassy nose, a dry hoppiness and not much else. Fairly unimpressive.

for the most part this is very boring. miller light aroma and appearance. has some nice maltiness on the finish but other than that it is very uninteresting.

On tap at Emmett’s - West Dundee. Poured absolutely clear bright golden with nothing going on head-wise. Aroma found sweet banana and candy notes with some dusty wheat.. little veggie presence too.. opened up a bit with pleasant sweetness after a while. Flavor had a tangy and sweet wheaty base with some banana flavors.. unwelcome vegetal undertones emerge with a tacky feel. Lighter-bodied with decent balance at best.. left some ugliness at the finish.

#1008, on tap at the brewery in Downers Grove. The bartender mentioned that this is going to be added to the routine list and is replacing the Munich Light. Clear golden with a medium sized medium lasting white head. The nose is somewhat strong for an Emmetts beer (good thing) and full of wheat and grains. The taste has lots of wheat and a hint of lemon zest. Not so much of the yeast or that lagerish kind of flavor that I just cant get into (IMO another good thing). Definately is not a clone of some macro stuff to appeal to those who are unwilling to try microbrew but is a solid offering from a very solid brewpub.

Pouring a slightly hazed, deep yellow body with a frothy white, good lacing head, this has an aroma of soft malts, wheat, and a light citric twist. Lively mouthfeel. The flavor contains bread dough, a bit of lemon, a light but sharp earthy bitterness, and a taste of Wheaties in the crisp finish. Not bad. A style that I definitely seem to prefer when it’s fresh from the tap.
