22 oz. bottle from Emmett’s Downers Grove, bought around 2009. Carefully pulled the wax from the crown and opened, to see a lcork. Kind of overkill here, I think. Finally get the cork out (from Lynfred Winery, and a little cap of foam starts coming at me. Not a gusher, though, I divert it to my glass. This had sat for a while, and the sweetness has taken over the nose, but with a definite bit of red wine in the rear. Dark brown in color, once in the glass, there’s just a thin layer of foam leaving some nice lacing. So the flavor comes across with the sugar of the usual dubbel, and some warmth and dryness from red wine. In fact, there’s an overnote of grape juice to it, as well. Frothy, bubbly texture helps make it more enjoyable.

Hazy brown red color with a small, off white head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of dark fruits, powdered cocoa, wine, grapes, vanilla, toast, and wood. Taste of dried fruits, light roast, Belgian yeast, wine barrel, and a dry finish.

UPDATED: AUG 17, 2009 22oz waxed and corked bottle shared courtesy of egajdzis (thanks!). Poured a deeper amberish color, lightly hazy, and a smaller sized off white head. Aromas of woodiness, vanillia, a little earthy, toffee, and dark fruits. Tastes of caramel, dark fruity sweetness, and some lighter grapes.

Pours a lightly hazy brownish amber with a smaller bubbly off white head. Aroma of dark fruits, oak, vanilla, light alcohol, molasses, toffee, earthy, medicinal candy sweetness. Flavor of the same, a bit of this funky tartness that doesn’t seem to belong. But still turns out ok.

FoBAB ’08. Cloudy brown with small tan head. Aroma is raisin and some dark fruits, all very light though. Flavor has some barrel with sweetness, in style. Medium body. Okay.
