4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20 Narnad (1147) - Wonder Lake, USA - APR 12, 2010
Served in a snifter. Arrives a very hazy, deep orange color with a tall, dense bubbled head that really sticks around for along time. Brew has a very strong aromatic hops profile with notes of resin, orange citrus, some smooth leafy bitterness followed by a solid caramel and toffee presence that lend a strong candy-like sweetness to the brew. Flavor has a very strong leafy hoppiness to it very early, mild resin notes follow, modest citrus profile but much more on the sweet side than bitter in the middle. A mild caramel and toffee sweetness come in at the then and the high hop rate provides a strong residual bitterness that lends a slight dryness to the beer. Body is heavy with a lot of sugary smoothness and a strong alcohol presence. Overall a fantastic hops presence in both the nose and flavor. Alcohol is quite high but the concentration (listed at 10% on the board) doesn’t reach a strength such that the beer feels hot. The original gravity for this brew has to be insane to obtain the residual sugary feeling and 10% alcohol. I really wish this were on tap all the time as it is a fantastic sipping brew!

Tap. Small lasting head. Pine nuts in the nose. Nice pine and citrus taste with a slight sweetness before a bitter bite. Finishes strong with more than a hint of alcohol.

This aromatic IIPA poured a dark reddish copper with a thick tan head. The darkness surprised me, it was similar to rootbeer in color. The aroma was a strong and fresh floral hops. Sweet malts are very evident, with an overall dark character to go with the coloration. Caramel comes to mind and for a second as the nice bitter finish overcomes you dark chocolate, which is quickly replaced by a bitter hoppiness that lingers. The feel is crisp and refreshing, but a bit thin. A great beer.

UPDATED: SEP 3, 2005 Oh my, this is very good. Of the microbrew restaurant kind of places that I have been this is by far the best beer from that kind of place that I have tried. Wonderful floral hops, sharp and fruity. Malts on back counteract nicely. Sharp, crisp and very clean.

UPDATED: JUL 5, 2005 Solid grapefruit and earthy hops emanating from a hazy, copper brew with a frothy off-white head, I anticipated some fun with hops in the drink... and I wasn’t disappointed. Good bitter drink on top of a solid caramel malt backbone, this Imp. IPA hit the spot and left me wanting another. Lingering bitter finish... muchly appreciated.
