COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Light, golden straw color with a creamy white head. Effervescent, light in body, with low hop bitterness. The Munich Light is crisp and clean, along the lines of an American domestic beer, but with noticeably more flavor and hop aroma.

TheAlum (3299) - Lisle, USA - FEB 2, 2012
Paddle sampler on tap at the brewpub (Downers Grove, IL). My first visit to Emmett’s. Pours a nice pale straw gold hue, a touch of darkness, fairly transparent pour with a smaller brighter white head atop. Dies to a small tiny ring of white bubbles with faint lacing. Aromas are toasty and grainy, bready and cereal grains dominate the nose. Dough, some dry grass and light spiciness hit the nostrils. Fairly aromatic for a lighter style here. Bready and doughy, yet not overbearing and a mellow spice and dry earthy hopping. Initial is lighter bodied, with a touch of girth into the middle, dry cereal grains, touches of toast, bready dough and mellow wheat. Pale grains, mellow touches of faint honey offer some mellow sweetness. Middle pushes some spice, a touch to the body, and some decent dry florals, earthy spicy hop focus. Lingering bready and biscuity malts stick around, some dryness and spice. Refreshing and lighter, fairly fresh and a dollop extra of body. Nice fresh beer that lacks complexity but is fairly drinkable. Cleaner, efficient.

Tap at Emmett’s in Downers Grove on Dec. 27, 2011. Sweet honey and grain nose. Clear pale yellow pour. Thinner palate, slightly syrupy. Buttery grain taste.

Tap in Palatine. Pours clear gold with a medium, fizzy white head, medium retention with good lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (straw, grain, meal), light spicy hops, clean lager character and notes of corn. Flavor is malt dominant with corn notes; clean. Light body, low warmth, medium carbonation and a dry finish.

Had at the brewpub in Downers Grove. Decent version of a Munich Helles. Not as malty as I would think. Serving:Tap

Yellow, small white head, hay aroma. Medium corny malt, feint hops. Convincing microbrew rendition of a macro-lager.

JaBier (3249) - Capital City, Ohio, USA - DEC 30, 2009
Sample at the Downer’s Grove location. Clear gold pour with a medium white head. Creamy and corny malt aroma with a bit of crisp hop. Flavor is about the same. Not terribly exciting, but better than expected.

Dogbrick (4840) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - SEP 30, 2009
Sample at the Palatine brewpub. This brew is a clear golden color with a thin white head that burns away quickly. Spotty lacing on the glass. Aroma of grassy hops and malt. Light, crisp body with flavors of mild hops and bready malt. The finish is short with a grainy malt aftertaste. Standard unimpressive brewpub gateway beer.

Another example on why I was completely suprised by this brewery. When i think of munich light, im thinking of all the watered down dort imitations ive had over the years. This was super fine. Bready, with fine malt notes balanced by subtle hops and a fine grassiness underlining the taste. I will drink this and all the others and like it!

Narnad (1147) - Wonder Lake, Illinois, USA - AUG 20, 2009
At the Dundee location. A golden color with a 1/2 inch dense white head. Aroma is very light and hard to detect. A light pilsner graininess and light lager-y yeast note are pretty much all there is for the nose. Flavor was light grainy but I got a light/moderate amount of vanilla. High carbonation, high lacing and very low density brew. Vanilla was there with the mild grainy notes but overall a pretty one dimensional, simple brew that is satisfying if your looking for a light, non mass produced light lager.
