Light copper in color, fresh, spicy citrus aroma. Malt is there as well, along with the typical ale fruity esters. The first taste reveals a pronounced bitterness without being harsh or biting. Malt flavor shows itself briefly, but gives way to a wonderfully fresh hop flavor followed by a pleasant, mild bitterness.

Victory Pale Ale is all about the hops. It is full of big hop flavor, aroma and bitterness, which are all supported by substantial malt character. The Victory finishes with a fresh-picked hop character on the palate that will leave your mouth watering. 5.6% ABV

Notes from the GTMW ’06. Yellow amber with a moderate eggshell head. Aroma of sweaty pineapple with toffee in the background. Not really that complex, but really good. The flavor added some pine and lemon zest and had a dry, moderately bitter finish. Light to medium body with moderate carbonation. Awesome beer I’d never heard of.

6-4-6-3-12 Nitro This draft brew from a cask on nitro from the brew pub poured a small sized head of foamy finely sized tan colored bubbles that were long lasting and left behind a transparent uncarbonated golden brown colored body and a very good lacing. The smooth aroma was floral and malty. The mouth feel was weakly tingly at the start and at the finish. The mild flavor contained notes of malt hops and floral. CO2 was much better 6-4-7-4-15 as rated. On CO2, it was much more crisp and hoppy with a stronger bitterness and tingle to the mouth feel . It was not nearly as flat as on nitro.

(Tap) Pours a deep amber color with a lasting white head. Aroma reveals a fragrant blend of hops. Taste is similar, with a seemingly harsh, yet fleeting, bitterness. Smooth malt profile adds some balance to the beer, but it could use a little bit more. This is a good beer, but could be even better with a few minor fixes.

Had this one on draught at the ale house in Oswego, Illinois. Medium orange pour with a thick, white head, very floral, rosy nose, awesome hoppiness fading into a delicate, carmelly finish. Very good!

On tap at Emmett’s - West Dundee. Poured a clear lighter coppery-amber with a short off-white head. The nose found a delectable blend of juicy pear and grapefruit hoppage with a sweet toffee and caramel base.. just a wonderful aroma! The flavor department found sweet lightly-toasted caramel with boatloads of tasty hoppage around (pear, grapefruit, and faint pineapple representin’).. very well-balanced with a long, sweet pine finish. Medium-bodied with great balance.. moderate-high bitterness.. Excellent all around!

This has a substantial PNW hop nose to go along with its attractive copper pour and moderate white head. The flavor is careamel malt sweetness, somewhat bready in nature, undercut by the bright grapefruit and pine hop bite. I think it can hold it’s own up against the big boys APAs out there.

Pint at Emmett’s DG - Aroma is strong with floral citrus hops. Pours transparent amber with a small head and great lacing. Flavor is also floral citrus hops with enough malt in the back to balance it out. Palate is crisp and tart. A very tasty APA which reminds me of Alpha King (that’s a good thing!!).

Draft Brewpub Downer’s Grove- Aroma of hops on an amber bodyHad a nice white head. Taste of hops and more hops. I agree with the previous reviews that this should be an IPA. Great tasting beer.

UPDATED: OCT 12, 2006 stellar. smelled like alpha king (an IPA masquerading as an APA). actually, i spent some time contemplating the APA-IPA-IIPA spectrum with this beer, wondering where it belongs (given that it’s one of the highest rated "APA’s." whatever. red/brown color. typical grass/fruit aroma. unforgiving hops for an APA. lots of body. rerate... not enough malt backbone

Glad to see my fellow Ratebeer bretheren agree with me on this one. Clear hops in the nose, although not overly strong. Clear, dark gold body with no visible carbonation and a slightly off-white head. As with most Emmett’s brews, excellent head. Strong hop profile; in fact, this drinks more like an IPA than an APA. Well balanced; excellent; growler worthy.
