Light copper in color, fresh, spicy citrus aroma. Malt is there as well, along with the typical ale fruity esters. The first taste reveals a pronounced bitterness without being harsh or biting. Malt flavor shows itself briefly, but gives way to a wonderfully fresh hop flavor followed by a pleasant, mild bitterness.

Victory Pale Ale is all about the hops. It is full of big hop flavor, aroma and bitterness, which are all supported by substantial malt character. The Victory finishes with a fresh-picked hop character on the palate that will leave your mouth watering. 5.6% ABV

UPDATED: OCT 12, 2006 stellar. smelled like alpha king (an IPA masquerading as an APA). actually, i spent some time contemplating the APA-IPA-IIPA spectrum with this beer, wondering where it belongs (given that itís one of the highest rated "APAís." whatever. red/brown color. typical grass/fruit aroma. unforgiving hops for an APA. lots of body. rerate... not enough malt backbone

Glad to see my fellow Ratebeer bretheren agree with me on this one. Clear hops in the nose, although not overly strong. Clear, dark gold body with no visible carbonation and a slightly off-white head. As with most Emmettís brews, excellent head. Strong hop profile; in fact, this drinks more like an IPA than an APA. Well balanced; excellent; growler worthy.

UPDATED: MAY 13, 2008 Tap at Downers Grove Brewpub. Poured a reddish copper with an off-white foamy head. Crisp and hoppy scent with a detectable sweet malty background. A sweet floralness with a malt body introduces this beer to the mouth and is quickly overcome by a nice bitterness that lingers elegantly. Slightly thin in the mouth but still smooth and silky.

Draft sampler at West Dundee. Nice orangey color with a touch of haze, and a thin head. Tasty pine and citrus up front, that settles to a slightly orange aftertaste. Good northwestern hop profile, not overdone. A swell fresh hoppy smell when thereís enough room in the glass to stick my nose. I see my notes didnít mention anything about the malts. Oh, well.

Bottled sample. Pale-amber in color with quickly falling head. Citrus hop aroma upfront, followed by slightly spicy hop flavor. Light malt background with fruity notes. Dry finish. Nicely balanced and drinkable

Draught sample at the Downers Grove location. Pale, clear amber-gold, little head...huge hoppy-fruity nose, citrus and cherry and pine tar...smooth, lovely sweetness at first balanced nicely by the massive hops, piney-citrusy mix isnít necessarily anything new but very well done...a bit too low on the carbonation and a touch too watery, or it might approach excellence, as it is very good.

First impression when the glass is delivered-what a great looking beer. Nice amber/orange color with a substantial 1-inch head. The first sniff and I thought- 3F, as the amarillo hop aroma hit me. The taste took awhile to match this as the beer was a little cold, but overall a very nice tasting and an easy drinking ale.

Amber color with no head. Solid aroma of bitter hops. Citrus (grapefruit) dominates the taste with a big hit of raw hop power. Good malt base to balance out the bitterness. Very full body. One of the best pale ales Iíve had in a brew pub in a long time.

Good beer, very easily drinkable. Hops in the nose, flowery but light. The taste is just about the same but stronger and longer lasting. Id say comparitvly this is better than, lets say, snpa. Pretty good overall.
