A deep dark stout with a deep dark creamy moka head. Light chocolate aroma, a bit roasted. In mouth, a rather dry stout, boring and plain. On tap at Empire, Nov. 17 2007.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20
On-tap at the brewpub. A dry stout, dark with mocha head and lace. Coffeeish and bitter astringent. Average stout but not bad.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Sample at the brewpub. Brownish-black color with a medium foamy beige head that recedes steadily to an outer ring. Partial rings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of roast malt, coffee and chocolate. Light-bodied with flavors of burnt malt, coffee and chocolate. The finish is roasty with a mild coffee aftertaste. Decent overall.

2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 10/20
Nov 2000/Nice and smooth, coffee like bitterness? comparable to Guinness in my opinion, though not quite as smooth on the tongue.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Nice fresh aroma, thick looking almost black in look. Neat creamy head. Roasted coffee. Some extreme flavours are included in this one (can’t described them yet). Big one.

2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
A poor nitro stout playing the usual wet ashes roast tune.
A hint of acidity lies in there and does not fit the whole portrait. Besides cigarette, faint malt and ashes flavours, it’s a big boat of nothing. The usual highly watery nitro texture. Almost no aroma.

2.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20
In short: A bland slightly chocolaty watery black dough of some kind.
How: Tap at brewpub
The look: Black body with a large tan head
In long: Strong aroma of roastiness and coffee. Unfortunately the mouthfeel and taste do not live up to the expectation. Feels very empty with the nitro carbonation being just too much for the frail malt profile. Simply feels like a watered down generic commercial black-cake with some cacao powder, dry grass and lemon skin in the finish. I haven’t experienced Black Magic with such power since that curse spell that makes you button your shirt wrong.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Draft (nitro). Pours near black with a beige head. Light dry roasty aroma with a light chocolate sweetness. The flavor has roasted malts, toasted grains, some light smoky notes, and a light sweetness. Pretty good.
