COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Fermented with wild yeasts and aged in wine barrels with orange peel, Sofie is a tart, dry, sparkling ale. A subtle, spicy white pepper note, a hint of citrus from the orange peel and a creamy vanilla finish make Sofie an intriguing choice for Champagne drinkers and beer drinkers who are fond of Belgian Saisons.

Doughy spicy nose. Hazy straw yellow color, big long lasting head. Sour cotton candy, bitter, tart, rich, good balance. Huge carbonation, medium body, incredibly fresh spicy citrusy finish with nice light funk and alcohol warmth. An outstanding beer. Full, complex, yet approachable, a must try.

Had two bottles of this from the LCBO. I am rating based on the first bottle but I am drinking the second bottle (different day) and all I can taste is chardonnay! Is it a result of the beer needing to develop a bit more, or is it a matter of "light pollution"? In other words, do I put the overly funky aroma and lack of beer taste to the brewer, or the LCBO? Anyway, the first bottle I had was wonderful. Unlike this second bottle, everything the first time around was so well mixed: the sweet apple undertones, the funky chardonnay flavours, and some of the herbal, refreshing notes one might expect from a saison. It was my first Goose Island beer and I was impressed! I’m assuming that this second bottle is a bit of a one off--as one might expect to happen, and it’s far from undrinkable.

A very effervescent saison with some interesting chardonnay flavors and some apple-like esters. Effervescent. Mild funk to it. Very approachable. Like a milder Unibroue Éphémère. Fantastic on a hot afternoon.

UPDATED: MAY 19, 2013 On tap at Blue monk. Yellow pour with a nice substantial white head. Aroma is some yeast with some floral notes and orange rind. Not a strong scent. Taste is smooth and mild sweet with a relatively long finish. Yeast and orange blossom.

765 ml bottle from LCBO. Pours a cloudy, straw yellow with lasting white head. Aroma is funky yeast with zesty citrus, bread and spice. Flavour is quite fruity with pear, white grape, tropical fruit and orange peel, underlying funk and some gentle spiciness. Lively carbonation. Very nice.

Pours a hazy pale straw colour with foamy white head. Aromas of sour lacto, farmy yeast and a bit woody. Really taste the lacto balanced by sweetness. Nice fruit and slight oak. Champagne mouth feel. Good beer!
