Pours well with a good head but I expected a little more of a malty flavor, still good but not great.

As good as other stout’s get, this is still the one that all others are compared to, for good reason. Sweet, not that alcoholic, creamy, and rich. Had this on tap at the Red Lyon in Lawrence.

Being a huge fan of Guinness and all it s beers whether it be Harp or Smithwicks. I thought for sure I’d like this. But it just wasn’t. I can’t remember the details it was a limited edition and I had it back in 2009 so I don’t recall the exact details but I remember being seriously disappointed.

12oz bottle from Pick’s poured into an English Pint. Pours black with a good bit of creamy off-white head. Aroma of coffee and some light chocolate. Taste is lightly bitter. Coffee and chocolate. Medium bodied with a creamy texture. Soft carbonation and a long coffee finish. Overall, pretty good. Glad I finally cracked this one.

Pours pitch black with mahogany edges and a two finger frothy light beige head that slowly settles into a thin ring. Spots of lacing left behind. Sweet malty aroma with bittersweet dark chocolate, earthy hops, caramel, nut and toffee. Thin and fizzy mouthfeel. Disturbingly watered down with high carbonation. Slight toasted malt flavor with subtle caramel and hazelnut. Tastes more like dirty soil with some sweet malt thrown in. Pretty gross.

Wait, what? where’d my rating go - oh must not have ever put it in. Oh well! Anyway, frantically searching my notes for this particular beer, I noted the black color pour with a thick, creamy dark tan head. Aroma was medium-roasted malts, with a slightly sweet and dry characteristics to it but a bit subdued like most Guinness beers are aroma-wise. Flavor was suprub. This one reminds me a bit of the "Foreign Extra Stout" and the "Extra Stout (North American)."

Bottle: pours dark brown with a tan head. It has a chocolaty, roasty aroma and a sweet, mild chocolaty flavor with a dry finish. Great brew.

12oz. bottle: This one pours a clear, fairly dark brown color. There was a bit of a tan head on it that lingers a little bit and leaves some lacing. The aroma is milder. A touch of sweet chocolate and some roasted malts are predominate. The taste is good. Chocolate malts, but not much sweetness at all. A bit of dryness in the finish. Medium to lighter bodied. Smooth and easy drinking.
