4.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Aroma: Floral and citrus hops overwhelming.
Appearance: Clear dark red with a thick tan head that leaves lots of lacing.
Taste: Medium sweetness balanced by a light bitterness that balances nicely, but doesn’t overwhelm.
Palate: Medium-full body, creamy texture, soft carbonation, long soft finish.
Overall: This one caught me off guard because it sets up to be a strong, bitter beer but it’s really well balanced and even handed. The hops and flavors are there, but they’re not overwhelming, and the malty sweetness is there, but it’s not so saccharine as to be offensive. This is a really well designed beer that I would seek out again next year!

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Transfer from BA review on 9-24-12-
Poured from bottle into pint glass
Appearance – The beer pours a beautiful orange-amber color with a one finger off white head. The head has pretty nice retention, but eventually fades slowly over time to leave a nice level of lacing on the side of the glass.
Smell – The aroma is big of a piney hop and caramel sweetness. Mixed with these aromas are some nice lighter notes of citrus hop as well as some lighter dark fruits.
Taste – The flavor starts with a nice bready and pine hop taste with a lighter caramel sweetness. The initial taste is only lightly hopped and semi-sweet with a nice smooth flavor. A fruity sweet flavor then comes to the tongue. These flavors down the bitter more, but only temporarily. The sweeter caramel is soon lost as more bitter pine comes to the tongue. Toward the end of the taste a nice citrus hop flavor of grapefruit and a lighter tangerine flavor come to the tongue, leaving a very pleasant citrus hop flavor on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the beer was nice and creamy up front getting crisper at the end of the taste. The carbonation level of the beer was on the just below average side. The body was fantastic in this brew. Up front the creaminess suited the light sweetness and bready nature of the flavor very well. But as the taste went on the crisp feel at the end was wonderful for the pine and citrus hop flavors. Overall, the carbonation was at a good level for both. Quite a nice mouthfeel.
Overall – This is one tasty Imperial IPA. A great blend of hop, malt and sweet with fantastic flavor transitions and an excellent feel.

Bottle, thanks to Summer Secret Santa. Thanks! Clear amber pour with some white head, irregular lacing. Aroma of caramel, faded hops, cherry, toffee. Caramel sweetness on the tongue balanced by moderate bitterness. Medium-full body, slick texture. Overall: I’m a sucker for vampires. Nice beer.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
It had a deep copper amber body with some reddish highlights and good clarity. The head is tall and fluffy, light beige in color and has nice retention. On the glass it makes cool sticky lacing. There is a full nose of fresh bready malt, light roasted notes, hints of toffee and mixed nuts. The aroma is sweet and yet balanced by solid notes of citrus like hops. The flavor has sweet caramel, bready and nutty maltiness with well balanced citrus/pine hops. The 8% abv is mild and adds some more subtle warmth and character. The finish is slow with some pleasant hop bitterness. It has a solid medium to full body with mellow carbonation and a smooth texture.

3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
This is a review from notes taken from my consumption last Autumn. I got this in a trade.
This was poured into a pint glass.
The appearance was a nice semi-dark red to slightly hazy looking brown color with a decent half fingered white foamy head that died super quickly. There wasn’t much lacing.
The smell was super malty and yet somewhat roasty with some light nuttiness about it.
The taste was malty sweet and had some of that roasty nuttiness coming back in there. There was a quick roasty nutty aftertaste and finish.
On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium and showed a decent sessionable aspect about it. The carbonation seemed really subdued, but still okay to me as it wasn’t anything bad.
Overall, hey now, I’d say for the most part this was a decent American Strong Ale, though I think I was expecting more. No worries, I think I’d have it again, possibly not one to adamantly seek out, but still worthy.

Pours a golden red. Taste is sweet with chocolate. The sweetness lingers and leads to a bit of grape flavor.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Dark hoppy aroma. Taste is lots of hops an bitterness. Carmel malt. Has an almost cedar taste from the realt and pine hops. Lots if red ale plus hops. Probably about as good as it gets for the style, just not one of my preferred styles.
