3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Marheb (416) - Montréal, Quebec, CANADA - JAN 8, 2012
L’acidité du blé combiné à la pomme donne l’impression d’un cidre. La présence en bouche l’arrière goût stérile font mal à cette bière.

Pours a ruby brown color with a thin off-white head that vanishes quickly. Aroma of plum raisin, dark cherry, and brandy. Sweet flavor of dark fruit with brandy, and wheat. Really nice sipping beer.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 BeerHeadBobby (147) - Apex, North Carolina, USA - DEC 4, 2011
This beer pours a very dark orange color. My mistake was pouring the bottom of the bottle in with the rest of the glass, so all the unfiltered wheat is now floating in the glass. Nose is strong, sweet alcohol with caramel notes. Taste is very sweet with a slight bitterness on the back end. Lots of sweet fruit. Honestly, either I havent had a strong beer in a while or the alcohol taste is overpowering. 8 out of 10
3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Scrapersnbeer (217) - Boston, Massachusetts, USA - NOV 19, 2011
Serious beer glows like a jack-o-lantern and goes dead after a lively pour. Can’t hold a head. Smells fruity like a real wine, but also a bit like freaking whiskey. Intensely bitter, but if one holds it on the palate for a time, the taste goes sweet and sour. Wheat evident cannot assert itself as a dominant element. Fruity alcohol punishes the palate and sticks around after finish. The kind of stuff that crosses the eyes as you drink it.

BGBB dinner @sierra first course. Hazy golden color, reminded me of a nice german hefe. Aromas centainly didn’t and niether did the smooth texture and palate. Comparing to smuttys wheatwine, this one is much more refined and flavorful. This does compare to the gamma ray however, but damn this might be the best wheatwine i’ve had.

A: The beer pours a hazy dark amber color with a finger of off-white head.
S: Smells pretty boozy. There’s plenty of citrus aroma to it as well as some other fruit notes such as tropical fruits (pineapple comes to mind). Quite a bit of wheat and some brown sugar.
T: Heavy on the booze as well as banana, grapefruit, and pineapple. Some wheat and bready malt, as well as brown sugar. A little bit of candied pears, too.
M: Medium bodied with medium carbonation.
O: Some decent flavors but just totally over the top boozy.

Deep dark cola coloured body with a nice thick tan head that lasts quite a while. Aroma of pit fruits, grapes, cognac, whiskey, oak and a bit of malt - plus tons of sweetness. Full-bodied; Potent at first with a lot of pit fruits, toasted malt, oak, cognac, scotch and a touch of nuts thrown in. Aftertaste is just as potent, perhaps a bit dry from the oak and bitter from the alcohol and malt, but a touch of sweetness remains after all. Overall, a decent barley wine, a touch strong around the edges, but the deep and complex flavours make for a long time to enjoy even a small bottle - plus, perfect small size. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Liquor Outlet in Boonton, New Jersey on 11-July-2010 (over a year old) sampled at home in Washington on 06-September-2011.
