Aventinus, the Wheat Doppelbock of Bavaria, has always been known to be the most intense and complex wheat beer in the world. This was the case for the past sixty years, but not anymore...
Up until the 1940’s, Aventinus was shipped all over Bavaria in containers lacking temperature control. Consequently, the precious drink partially froze during transportation. Unaware that the brew was concentrated by the separation of water from the liquid. People were baffled by this unique version of Aventinus. By chance, the first Aventinus Eisbock was created.
Well aware of this story, Hans Peter Drexler, brewmaster of the Schneider brewery, decided to recreate this classic "mistake" in a modern controlled facility. Thus, the Aventinus Eisbock is reborn sixty years later ... Prost!

UPDATED: JUL 26, 2014 6-30-12, A great GREAT bock. Surprising fruitiness (one taster said it reminded him of juicy fruit gum - in a good way). There is moderate carbonation with deep malts. Delicious. 7-25-14- nice deep plum and ripe cherry notes on top of malt goodness. 9.5 bd. 8.7 joshK

Bottle. Pours ruby brown. Aroma of raisin, fruitcake, plums and sherry. Taste is rich and sweet and a little boozy. Great after dinner drink. Very enjoyable.

Výborne spravene pivko, vyvážená chuť, nie príliš cítiť tie grády čo to má, pri pití cítim obrovsky pôžitok

Dark copper color, pillowy off-white head. Very slightly hazy but not overly noticeable. Not exactly an explosive aroma. You get some breadiness, dried fruit, and holiday fruitcake aromas, but they’re not really screaming at you. On the palate, it’s a totally different story. A quite explosive combination of figs, raisins, dates with a very warming and vinuous effect on the aftertaste that tells you the story of this 12% abv Eisbock. Not for the faint of heart! As the beer opened up, i got some whiffs of barbecue smoke to go along with the other sweet notes.

Aroma: alcohol is present. Yeast, fruits, spices. Some weird aromas not very pleasant i couldn’t identify. Appearance: very deep amber-brown color, cloudy, very thin white-beige head with very little retention. Lots of sediments in the bottle, it’s hard to keep them away from your glass. Taste: medium sweetness, medium sourness, medium bitterness. Palate: creamy texture, medium-to-full body, average carbonation, long bitter and little sour and pungent finish. Overall: not very nice appearance or aroma but very interesting mouthfeel. Surprising mix of flavors (roasted malts, caramel, frutis, spices), the warming effect of the high alcohol level is present and long. Very long bitterness and spiciness, almost pungent at finish. Not much of my favourite type of beer, but very complex ans surprising beer. Interesting.

Bottle from a store in Stuttgart, DE. Fabulous pour, dark with a two finger beige head. Plum, sourdough, wheat fruity mix. I little on the sweet side but a great balanced brew. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Aroma of wheat and alcohol, yeast and lacquer. Pours a muddy, hazy brown with an off-white, short head that rapidly dissipates. Big flavors of wheat and sourdough with sweet caramel notes and not unpleasant alcohol. Not subtle but pretty balanced. Fizzy mouthfeel and medium to high carbonation. Not my favorite style but its pretty impressive.

I bought this bottle at Drink of the World, Lucerne. I drank it in Bonfol. It is the same version than the Aventinus with a stronger degrees of alcohol and in my opinion even better. The taste is perfect, plum, apricot, malt, sugar, caramel, hop, well balanced and like a syrup. The body is brown and red, low-middle carbonation, white and brown foam. I love it and the best it is to drink this beer with a nice meat.

Bottle. Pours is cloudy amber to brown with medium persistent beige head. Aroma is fruity, wheat, touch of yeasts, banana, peach, plum, lot of spices. Taste is medium sweet, fruity mouthfeel. Heavy body with massive malty background, alcohol warmth, spicy character, oily to creamy texture, lively carbonation, spicy aftertaste. Beautifully complex beer, awesomely ballanced.
