COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Aventinus, the Wheat Doppelbock of Bavaria, has always been known to be the most intense and complex wheat beer in the world. This was the case for the past sixty years, but not anymore...
Up until the 1940’s, Aventinus was shipped all over Bavaria in containers lacking temperature control. Consequently, the precious drink partially froze during transportation. Unaware that the brew was concentrated by the separation of water from the liquid. People were baffled by this unique version of Aventinus. By chance, the first Aventinus Eisbock was created.
Well aware of this story, Hans Peter Drexler, brewmaster of the Schneider brewery, decided to recreate this classic "mistake" in a modern controlled facility. Thus, the Aventinus Eisbock is reborn sixty years later ... Prost!

Wooden gravity cask at redlight redlight. Pours a cloudy brown amber with a generous beige head. The nose is wonderfully complex. Strong earthiness alongside some dark fruits; plums, figs, pickled apples, etc. Also some dough and just a hint of the boozy high alcohol. The flavor is something else to behold. Pungent but not too sharp. Bitter/sweet with a very subtle tartness in the middle. Very delicious. just an utterly fantastic beer.

Great, but I like the regular Aventinus better. The nose is banana and clove a long with a lot of dark fruit in the raisin region and a youch of bready aromas. The beer is deep brown with a thick syrupy head of a slightly fizzy structure. The beer tastes like bananas, cloves, and dark fruit with other subtle malt characteristics in the back. The beer is thick and full bodied with an almost overwhelming alcohol presence, but with a smooth slightly oily finish.

Aroma of sugar plum, wheat, and bananas foster. Pours dusty brown with a foamy white film. Taste is tangy with caramel banana, plums, and slight cinnamon. Delicious and sweet.

Fantastic nose, with depth and complexity. Pours a muddy brown colour and the flavours are gorgeously rich and full bodied. Has a little sweetness up front, but balanced nicely. A dangerous 12% beer as it hides the alcohol very well. A few sips and rosy cheeked!

Pours a very cloudy and very dark brown colour with a tall frothy off-white head. Aroma is sweet wheat with dark fruit, banana, caramel. Taste is also sweet with wheat, caramel, banana and other dark fruits leading to a sweet fruity finish. Only a slight alcohol burn on the way down. Damn nice stuff.

Bottle. Pours slightly cloudy brown with a light tan head that dissipates quickly with no lacing. Aroma of sweet wheat with some alcohol notes as well. Sweet to the taste, with wheat, alcohol and unidentified fruitiness. Mouthfeel is rich and creamy.

Brown 33cl bottle dated 2008, number 19309. Best before 30th July 2013, drank July 2009. Poured into a half litre Franziskaner Weissbier glass because I know this can be a lively bugger sometimes! Lively it was, but the glass contained it. Cloudy, murky and foreboding looking body, a sort of grubby brown, teak wood red colour. A good firm tan head sat on top, looked interesting more than inviting. Alcohol and a fizzy pop (Vimto) smell to it, some malts in the mix too. A sweet vanilla and banana aroma also came along as the beer warmed up. Christmas pudding of a beer, plums, rich fruitcake, a faint hint of cigars and smoking jackets. The sort of beer to have by a roaring fire on a winters evening while the wife prepares a supper of home made soup with crusty brown bread. Very pleasant winters beer, brought back from a Berlin beer trip, glad I found it.

Creamy and smooth with a lot caramel and raisins. I’d say it’s like a mix between a porter, a quadruple and a doppelbock. Smells amazing - very sweet. Jonathan loves it, it’s thick and syrupy for me, but it is really really good. One of our top favorite beers.
