COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
"...Was brewed to showcase yeast in the flavor of beer, and was brewed in strict adherence to the Reinheitsgebot. "Weizenbock means strong wheat beer. Wheat contributes a pleasant citric acidity and delicacy on the palate, and its surfet of protein creates a massive head. Howling Wolf was crafted with 40% wheat malt and minimally spiced with Liberty Hops. Like all Bavarian wheat beers, yeast is the star of this show."

UPDATED: FEB 5, 2012 Pours a clear golden color. Aroma hits with yeast and banana and then apples. Flavor is a real rich malty vanilla flavor that gives way to the banana flavors. This is an excelllent beer . Clean finishing. Good carb and just a good solid drinking beer

Draft at The Bridge, from notes. Pours a cloudy orange with a small white head that leaves some spots of lace in the glass. Aroma of wheat, mixed fruits, especially banana, peppery spices, sweet malts, and some grass. Flavor of tropical fruits, with banana again leading the way, wheat, mild spice, and sweet malts. Medium-bodied, with a malty, fruity mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

2009 bottle pours cloudy dark orange with dense off white head. The smell is mild and mostly malty with a little hint of spice. The taste is different, more spice heavy, clove and cardamom, with a little fruitiness. The wheat makes for a good palate with the carbonation. As it warms the yeast that has aged gets stronger, with some funky banana and bubblegum to go with ASL the other flavors. It was ok over all, not as good as the 2 year sheep eater I had or the double vision doppelbock.

Bottle @ home. Cloudy, dark red orange appearance with a fluffy, cream colored head with some light sediment. Moderately spicy, toasty caramel, wheat, mild clove, somewhat yeasty aroma. Mild banana, clove, fairly spicy, yeasty, caramel toffee, wheat malty flavor. Solid but nothing special.

1L bottle. Poured clear medium orange with a moderate cap of beige head.. some sticky lacing. The aroma picked up warm bananas, caramel, chocolate, and molasses with vanilla and black peppery accents.. lots of sugars going on.. lots of wheat in there.. just a bit too malty. The flavor found sweet chocolate, overripe banana, and molasses at the core, with light wheaty sourness laced throughout.. more peppery, spicy, and warm on the back.. came together well. Medium-bodied with low-moderate carbonation on the palate.. a tad syrupy at times.. decent feel and flow. This was good, but not great.

The beer pours a hazy copper color with a white head. The aroma is heavy on the toffee and bananas, exactly what I expect from a weizenbock. The flavor is more of the same. The toffee and caramel malt is pretty strong with some wheat, banana and clove notes also mixed in. As the beer warms, it starts to taste quite a bit like bubblegum. Very interesting. The alcohol is present but is not overpowering. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

Deep amber pour with minimal head. Aroma of sweet malt, brown sugar and citrus. Similar flavor, a bit too sweet. Meh.

Bottled like in the picture. Light amber body, clear, lots of small particles, creamy off-white head in the direction of orange. Aroma is fruity with esters, lots of cooked banana (baked / fried, both are very similar), some spiciness with clove, nice fruity alcohol notes, sweet dough, and definitely a sweet beer. Mouth is fairly full, lightly infused with creamy carbonation, finish towards wet, a bit sticky/syrupy. The beer is pleasantly sweet, fruity, the yeast is indeed highlighted in the tremendous esters and fruity-doughy goodness. Middle and back end are tempered by the wheat content, drying things out a bit, finishing with grassy hops, not too sweet, wet straw. Very drinkable. Would like to be able to compare to a fresh bottle, but my chance for that is long-gone unless this is a perennial offering. Sitting longer would help the carbonation, although it’s lovely now, but not quite enough of it.
