Bottle. Pours black with a small brown head. Aroma is heavy and complex; fat, malty, vanilla, dark fruits, fudge, molasses. A bit cloying, but very nice. Flavour is sweet! Fat, roasted, dark fruits, tangy, pepper, chocolate and molasses. Finish is more of the same with an added note of sweet Finnish liquorice and an alcohol burn lingering. Carbonation is great: prickly in just the right way against the heavy body. Overall a great beer; complex and very well-balanced, even if very sweet and somewhat cloying. 30.03.12.

750ml bottle 2013 vintage popped September 2016. Pours straight motor oil with no head and a small ring of bubbles. Nose and taste are super sweet and rich, gooey melted fudge, vanilla, chocolate cake, did I mention sweet? Some dark fruity plum and faint raisin, brown sugar and caramel, tootsie roll. Definitely boozy and sticky on the finish but hides the % fairly well in the nose and early palate, or perhaps it’s mellowed out after 3 years. Not something I could drink often. Pretty tasty stuff regardless.

August 13, 2016. Bottle ar Bruery Bonanza 2016. Vintage 2010 and 2015.
Black with a small quickly dissipating brown head. Aroma is malty, roasted and boozy with with dark sugar, caramel, figs, raisins, notes of cocoa, coffee, hints of soy and a good amount of bourbon alcohol. Taste is sweet, malty and boozy. Finish is sweet, sticky, bitter and boozy with toffee, dark sugar, figs, raisins, bitter dark chocolate, some salty notes and warming notes.  Full bodied, oily, syrupy and soft, almost flat carbonation.
2015 was still too hot and had some sweet banana notes, 2010 had very nice oxidized noted with dried fruits and was much smoother.

2015. Near black with a khaki head that fades to a ring. Oily lacing. Aroma is strong chocolate syrup, molasses, bourbon, and dates. Taste is hot whiskey, milk chocolate, molasses, vanilla, and some candied dates. A lot of alcohol heat and warmth on the way down. Slick syrupy body.

Bottle shared at the As Is Bottle Share #1. Pours a deep murky brown body with no head. Nose is thick, sweet black strap molasses, lots of wood and bourbon alcohol sting. Mouthfeel is sweet fudge, sugar, booze and oxidation.

My Bottom Line:
Molasses, chocolate and plenty of caramelized sugars merge in this heavy, warming Imperial Stout.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A slice of foam tops the darkness.
-Mouthfeel remains velvety despite the intensity.
-Alcohol is obviously important in the flavor profile and body.
-This is quite reminiscent of DFH’s World Wide Stout.
-This was aged nearly 6 years before opening, and as such allowed us to taste a properly smoothened version. Even though it’s an extreme brew, time seems to have made it more approachable.

From a 2010 bottle, tasted in 2016.

Type: 750-ml bottle (25.4 oz.) Glass: AleSmith Barrel-Aged Reserve snifter glass From: The Bruery in Placentia, Calif. Price: $25.99 Purchased: N/A; Received on Nov. 8, 2015 Consumed: June 10, 2016 Misc.: Bottled on Aug. 25, 2015; 2015 version (19.9 pct. ABV) To say that I was excited to have this was the understatement of the century. I can’t think of a beer I’ve wanted to try more than Black Tuesday. A big thanks to Chris for letting my buy one of his bottles. This is going to be good. Poured a black color with two fingers of fizzy tan head. Serene setting underneath. Decent spotty lacing. Decent retention. (Sight - 3.50) Smelled sugary milk chocolate, smooth bourbon, toffee, caramel, dry cocoa, chocolate syrup, crayon, licorice, hints of molasses, figs, dark raisins and dark plum. Got boozier each whiff. (Smell - 4.50) First taste was just awesome, definitely warming all the way down to my gut. Got sugary chocolate syrup, milk chocolate, rich caramel, creamy toffee, smooth bourbon, molasses, black licorice, creamy espresso vanilla and light woody oak. Huge warmth in my throat. Drinks like a port dessert wine or some other complex red wine. This is warm, but not super hot. Definitely drinkable. Amazing. (Taste - 4.75) Full body. Sticky texture. Average carbonation. Long, surprisingly smooth finish. Perfect. (Feel - 5.00) This was just incredible. Might be my favorite beer ever, knowing that Pliny the Elder and Younger might come down a tad once I rate them again. (Overall - 4.75) 4.64 100 A+
