4.9 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
Bottle. I usually don’t let a beer live up to its hype, but Black Tuesday held on to its name and much more. The pour was a dark chocolate color with barely any head. The aroma was sweet chocolate, highly roasted malts, some caramel, dark prunes and cherries, with some vanilla and oxidation in the finish. The flavor was very close to the aroma but with more oxidation, oak, vanilla, coffee, rich chocolate, and not too much of an alcoholic taste at all. This was a surprisingly well balanced beer that is far too easy to drink. More of this has to be made, as it is now one of the most complex, flavorful beers I have tried to date. Fine job, Patrick.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
August 13, 2016. Bottle ar Bruery Bonanza 2016. Vintage 2010 and 2015.
Black with a small quickly dissipating brown head. Aroma is malty, roasted and boozy with with dark sugar, caramel, figs, raisins, notes of cocoa, coffee, hints of soy and a good amount of bourbon alcohol. Taste is sweet, malty and boozy. Finish is sweet, sticky, bitter and boozy with toffee, dark sugar, figs, raisins, bitter dark chocolate, some salty notes and warming notes. Full bodied, oily, syrupy and soft, almost flat carbonation.
2015 was still too hot and had some sweet banana notes, 2010 had very nice oxidized noted with dried fruits and was much smoother.

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
Zwart als de nacht. Crèmekleurige schuimkraag. Aroma en smaken van koffie, (pure) chocolade, hazelnoten. Vol en halfzwaar van smaak. Lange plakkerige zoetige afdronk. Alcohol goed weggestopt. Gevaarlijk maar héél lekker bier.

Thanks kathouse. You rock. Pours a dark chestnut brown. Basically no head. Then again I can’t imagine any beer at 20% ABV would have a lot of head. Aromas of toasted nuts, coconut, dark chocolate, hot bourbon. Flavours of molasses, milk chocolate, bourbon, coconut, booze. Not crazy hot on the finish. Oxidisation makes it drink like a sherry. Very good.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
750ml bottle 2013 vintage popped September 2016. Pours straight motor oil with no head and a small ring of bubbles. Nose and taste are super sweet and rich, gooey melted fudge, vanilla, chocolate cake, did I mention sweet? Some dark fruity plum and faint raisin, brown sugar and caramel, tootsie roll. Definitely boozy and sticky on the finish but hides the % fairly well in the nose and early palate, or perhaps it’s mellowed out after 3 years. Not something I could drink often. Pretty tasty stuff regardless.

Brassin 2010. (Rating #7047)

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Sampled from a bottle outside Zwanze Day. Pours black, with a small, tan ring. The nose is immense bourbon and baker’s chocolate, with some mild coffee, vanilla, caramel, cinnamon, and molasses. Very sweet, with a bit of roasty bitterness. Very heavy body, creamy, sticky, and thick. This is an experience, but there’s a surprising lack of booziness and warming.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
A lovely bartender just gave me a free sample of this. Pours ink black with no head. Aroma is boozy, with caramel and vanilla. Taste has a lot of woody booze, but it’s smooth not overwhelming. Lots of vanilla notes to balance the alcohol. Just a bit of bubbly carbonation. Lingering oak and vanilla. Wonderful.
