Draft at Brouwer’s Big Wood 2009. Ruby, hazy mahogany. Creamy head with tons of bourbon. Full caramel, molasses, firm earthy wood and dark malted leather. Wonderful

On tap at Brouwer’s Big Wood 09. My favorite from the night, sipped alongside Alan himself. Reddish-orange pour, with a small head. Huge, sticky-sweet aroma - like an old Doggie Claws with a nice bit of bourbon sweetness thrown in. *Huge* mouthfeel - this stuff is seriously thick. So many layers in it, it’s hard to describe. Bourbon, fruit and other malts, with a good amount of hops sitting under it. Huge, and utterly delicious.

Had this on two occasions. First time this beer was brilliant, soft vanilla laced oak, subdued fusels, smooth Fred shining through. The second time this was a big boozy bomb. Not sure on why, maybe different kegs or barrels, but the fusels ruined the second experience. I’ll stick to the better of the two samples until I hopefully get a third shot at it.

Draft at Bigwood 09. Deep amber golden with tight off white head with some lacing and thin legs. Caramel muffins, toasty pecans and bourbon, vanilla...yum. Sticky/creamy mouth feel. Really bourbony sweet...almost like candy...caramel biscuit flavor with a ton of sweetness. Wow...glad to try this one, but IMHO, Fred and fftw top this.

Poured by Alan at HOTD. Appearance was golden amber. The nose was big on bourbon, also some sweet malts mixed in. Taste was similar to smell, delicious bourbon was very welcomed. Also hints of that sweet malt mixed with vanilla and oak. Wonderful beer, just needs some aging. Thanks again Alan!

Did a truckload of these at the HOTD open house during OBF 2009. Super boozy.

Draught at the brewery. Thanks, Alan. 1 year in bourbon barrels. Slightly darker than usual. Slightly sour, with big vanilla, bourbon, oak. Fabulously smooth and fragrant. A big beer that has taken on the bourbon characteristics very well. Well done!
