4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20 tennessejed420 (922) - Denver, Colorado, USA - NOV 29, 2012bottle pours a slightly hazy dark reddish brown, with somewhat thin off-white tan head. I’m familiar with Aecht Schlenkerla rauchbiers, but the aroma on this one is off the charts. Woah! Roasty, smoked barbecue flavors - pork, smoky vegetable stew, sweet hickory, campfire. Also some wood aroma, birch. Also beneath the dominating smoke is still a readily distinguishable doppelbock aroma, caramel, brown sugar, wet leaves, soft fruit. There’s also a nuttyness. You can really get different aromas out of this on almost every sniff as it warms. Medium bodied, light for 8% (in a good way), nicely warming. While the same tastes are present in the flavor as in the aroma, here the doppelbock style dominates over the smoke, while both are still distinct. Finish is lingering smokyness. Overall an excellent brew, and probably my favorite from Aecht Schlenkerla yet, which is saying alot.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 angelkostvo (263) - CZECH REPUBLIC - MAY 17, 2013
Ruby color with almost no head. Aroma of smoked meat, ash, malts, brown sugar, bananas, clove may be. Taste is light to medium sweet, smokey flavor, a bit sour. Medium body creamy texture, soft carbonation. The ABV is very well hidden.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 Rune (6120) - Tromsø, NORWAY - MAY 10, 2013
500ml bottle brought back home from NWAF ‘13 in Manchester. Enjoyed in company of Finn at his place. Beige bubbly head leaving fragile lacing behind. Crystal clear, brown coloured body. Prominent smell of sausages and burnt wood. Barbecue sausage in flavour with a nice touch of oak vanilla behind. A little roastiness to a semi-sweet ending. Enjoying (Tromsø, 08.05.2013).
3.9 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 Niko100 (1484) - New York, USA - MAY 7, 2013
Nice amber/orange color; Medium slightly creamy body; Aroma of rich smoked meat, & burnt oak; Flavor of smoky sweet malt, caramel, dark fruit, syrup, and spice; Nicely balanced; Can’t get enough of the aroma and smoke - not as good as their Urbock but still quite nice.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 5000 (4962) - Hardened Liver, Washington, USA - MAY 3, 2013
Bottle:   Amberish, dirty, hazy, little to no head or lacing.   Strong band-aid and smoked aroma.   I am hoping its a bit better because the band-aid smokiness is something I cannot stand. &nsp On the tongue its much
better, smooth, smokey, very clean, with only minimal amounts of band-aid.   Smoked aspects are minor to moderate.   For a Doppelbock it seems a little weak.   Has a bit of sweetness to it.   Not very big in body and
mouthfeel, fairly average.   Soft band-aid and smoked malts on the finish.   A bit more plastic like than I prefer, but its smooth with a nice maltiness.   As it warms, the band-aid comes out a bit more.   Don’t drink
this one while its warm folks!   I was expecting a bit more from this one.
4.5 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20 Beer61Mark (8) - - MAY 3, 2013 does not count
One of the great rauchen beers from Bamberg, Germany. This one made with Oak smoke (hence Eiche). Dopplebock, and 8% alcohol. Probably the best of its class. Taste reminds this southern boy of barbeque!
3.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Derek881 (855) - Frederick, Maryland, USA - MAY 2, 2013
Poured from the bottle into a trumpet glass to drink. The beer had a wet, hazy rusted copper/light brown color with a deep rust hue and a modest bubbly and foamy off-white head with shorter retention, very little cling, and light lacing. The aroma had a very strong smoky oak character, with a whiskeyesque quality, and some earthy, grainy tones; only a light hint of caramel malt. Its taste was also fairly strongly smoky and oak-dominated, with a light undertone of sweet caramel malt. The body was fairly light with low carbonation and not much body or mouthfeel, with a watery consistency. Very interesting beer, unlike any I remember having with the smoky characteristics.

2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 AleTsar (1327) - Edinburgh, SCOTLAND - APR 28, 2013
Bottle from Tomlinsons, Inverness [280413]
Caramel brown, frothy off white head that dissipates to nothing
Aroma - Massive smoked wood, very aromatic, burnt bacon, grilled smoked sausage, phenolic, far too much smoke
Taste of woody smoke, smoky bacon, caramel malts, burnt edges of sausage, i’m not liking the smoke, caramel malts, don’t get the hops, bit phenolic, the smoke flavour isn’t great
Palate - Thin to medium body, soft carb, quite sweet malts. Finisd as main flavour, lingering strong smoked wood, phenolic, way too smoky
Overall - This is a Marmite beer. It’s way too smoky - really has to drunk with smoked cheeses and sasusages...but to be honest i’d rather have a beer less smoky

UPDATED: APR 20, 2013 Deep copper with an amber glow but no head. This has an extreme peat smoked aroma with a wooden smoked aftertaste. It has a sweetness in its taste and is a little sticky in its texture.
