COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Black Xantus is a rare bird and the first new release from Nectar Ales in Years. It is the First ever “big-beer” to be released under the Nectar Ales line. Barrel aged for 6 months in combination of Bourbon, retired Firestone Union and wine barrels and Infused with fair-trade, organic coffee from local roaster Jobella. Rich bourbon and coffee aromas greet the senses. Complex chocolate and tobacco flavors fill the palate. This beer displays a full-bodied mouth-feel and an overall balanced presentation. It would be a perfect pairing to rich chocolate desserts.

Pours nearly pitch black with a creamy tan head that settles to a thick film. Aroma is roast, chocolate, whiskey, espresso, and vanilla. Flavor is nice and full with coffee, chocolate, roasted malt, caramel, vanilla, oak, and whiskey. Some booze. Palate is medium-full and fairly smooth yet just a little boozy and astringent. Overall this is a good but not elite imperial stout.

22oz bottle courtesy of dcschiller. Thanks, Dave! Pours a medium-dark stout brown with a tan head. Nose is roast, slight licorice, cocoa, dark chocolate, and a hint of earth. Flavor is chocolate and earth in front, some earth and dark chocolate in the mid, and some pine hops in the back with a somewhat dry finish, mixed with hints of cocoa. Interesting imp stout.

UPDATED: JAN 1, 2012 Une grosse bombe de chocolat noir avec une bonne corpulence. Tabac, orge torréfié également mais tout en douceur avec une légère amertume juste à point.

22oz bottle from Binny’s Lakeview, split with dwm1034. Pours a jet black color with a thin tan head. Aroma is mostly coffee, some roasted malt, vanilla, bourbon. Medium to heavy on the palate with soft carbonation. Flavor is sweet, malty, roasty, chocolate, coffee, a little bourbon, with a nice bitter coffee finish. Pretty tasty.

Shared bomber with sherm1016...thanks! Pours black with minimal tan head...nose screams coffee and bourbon...as does initial taste. Consistent rich flavor....great with (just one more) rich brownie..great end to a great Christmas day....very tasty
