3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle. Pours opaque black with a small tan head that dissipates quickly leaving a ring that has some lacing. Aroma is roasty licorice. Flavor is surprisingly astringent and acidic, strong anise, roasted malts and chocolate. Medium plus body, a bit creamy. Not bad, but I am just not much of a fan of anise-heavy stouts.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. 3/11/14. Pours dark brown-black with a thin, fluffy brown head. Aroma is dark chocolate, dark berries, creamy, chalk, earth, hint of vanilla, touch of berries. Taste is dark chocolate, bubblegum, fruit esthers, grass, light fruits, dark berries, grass, hint of spruce; finish is dark chocolate, leather, bitter fruit peel. Interesting. Thin lacing; not particularly resilient. Medium-full bodied. Medium carbonation; active carbonation, thin bubbles. Tasty, interesting, enjoyable. A bit odd for a Russian Imperial Stout but enjoyable nonetheless.

3.4 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
A strange brew for me due to the lack of an aroma. Try as I might, the only aroma I got was a hint of chocolate and booze, The flavor I thought was excellent. More milk or sweet stout with chocolate and a little vanilla along with some oak. It has a silky feel and is very smooth.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle, pour is black and oily, thin brown head that fades. Aroma is heavy roasted malt, coffee, some cocoa, light lemon and grass. Taste is rich malt, roasted and burnt, some citrus from hops, cocoa in the back. Heavy enough to linger on your tongue, but not too sticky.

2.7 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
On tap poured into a 12oz snifter. A very earthy, dirt-like aroma comes forth early on. When it mellows a bit, this is replaced with the smell of a dark roast coffee. It pours a relatively clear and transparent (for an Imp Stout) dark brown with decent retention of a tan, foamy head, eventually subsiding to a thin, trace layer. It has a nice micro-bubble sheet-like lacing. It’s mostly a taste of bittersweet chocolate malt with some minor, salted caramel-creamy sweetness. With some warmth, this flavors start to become more espresso bitter and dark fruit sweet (grape and cherry come to mind). This medium bodied beer is oily and sticky with some light carbonation. This finish is mild but coats the mouth with a coffee and tobacco finish.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle at HV. I think bro left this. Black color with medium head that dissipated some. Aroma of chocolate and vanilla beans, some roasted malts. Medium light sweetness. Hidden alcohol. Creamy texture. Below average carbonation. Some bitter finish. Enjoyed it.

3.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle pours a near sumi ink black with a tan head that dissipates quickly, and smells of french roast coffee, vegetables, and a hint of chocolate.
Mouthfeel is chalky with mild carbonation, should hit a bit harder for a stout of this magnitude.
Flavor starts out with a big dark roast coffee, dark chocolate with vanilla and caramel trying to sneak in there, but hides the alcohol well. Cherry begins to assert itself as the beer warms and the glass empties.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20
A: Very Dark brown, almost black no light coming through it, mocha colored head and slight lacing
S: smells of cocoa, coffee beans, sugary sweet and dark roasted malt
T: medium bodied, the dark roasted malt really comes through powerfully, strong flavored for sure. A slight citrus is hiding somewhere around in there and the finish is bitter, yet the roasted flavor stays along with it on the palate which makes for an interesting drink.
O: I like this beer a lot, I don’t drink imperial stouts all of the time so this one is a nice change. It doesn’t sit too heavy either which I appreciate and the bitterness is nice too, if I had a suggestion though, it would be that the bitterness be dialed back a little bit so it doesn’t distract from the dark roast of the malt that is so dominating at the beginning, I think it could be better balanced but at the same time I like it a lot and always recommend two brothers beers.
