Rodenbach Vintage is the unique result of selection by our Rodenbach brew masters, the barrel after two years of maturation has produced the best beer, "the best barrel of the year". The label is always the number of barrel stated and the year which marks the beginning of maturation.

Rodenbach Vintage is 100% matured old beer, resulting in superior Rodenbach Grand Cru. Its taste is complex, round, intense and refreshing. Typically, the apple tart fruitiness combined with caramel, wild honey and oak with a hint of vanilla, cherry and licorice. Its aroma has hints of caramel and oak, as well as notes of green apples mixed with honey and chocolate. The soft sour, fruity aftertaste is long and nicely balanced like a grand cru wine.

Ingredients: water, barley malt, corn, hops.

2011 Vintage (Barrel 95). Bold, yet balanced. Rich malty and fruity sweetness, semi-fermented fruit marmalade, and some well-integrated acetic/vinegar kick. The body is medium. Gets sweeter and stickier as it warms up. Not much oak character found.

(750 ml 2012 bottle from Systembolaget) Pours a clear black tea color with a small active off-white head that dissipates very quickly without lace. Aroma is nice and intense for a Flanders red, with a tart fruity core of baked sour cherry, yellow plum, currants? There is a good helping of wood, a little leathery and oaky. Some sweet brown sugar/caramel malts. Light spice, cinnamon maybe? There is a fairly light and balanced acetic sourness. In the mouth, acetic sourness is much more pronounced and runs basically throughout the sip. Crabapple fruitiness dominates, but there are also notes of cherry, raspberry and some other red fruit I can’t separate that fill in towards the finish. There is a balancing brown sugar malt character that offsets the acid and supports the fruit. Woodiness is present but well integrated, lending a vinous character and subtle drying bitterness on the finish with hints of leather and tobacco. Medium body with soft effervescent carbonation. This is a wonderfully fruit forward yet balanced Flanders red, with sweetness to help its drinkability and wood that doesn’t take over. Complex yet exceedingly drinkable.

75cl bottle from systembolaget bs. Pours red brown with nice short head. Fruity, sour aroma with taste that follows. Very sour with cherries and some tropical fruits. After taste is also very sour. Sour beers is not my thing, if you like sour beer this is probably up there with the best.
