From notes. On cask. Pours slightly cloudy orange with a nice foamy off-white head. Aroma of tropical fruit, pine and floral bitters; some alcohol as well. Flavour is very bitter; noticeable citrus, tangerines and resin, with a sweet malt backbone. Nice cask mouthfeel, slightly astringent, strong alcohol, but quite balanced.

Bottle shared at the Cad’s 10th Anniversary Tasting - CBC Clerkenwell, London. Thanks to Anders. Pours clear, rich gold with frothy white head. The nose holds some rindy citrus, pale bread, crackers, grain. Medium sweet flavor with more crackery pale malts, pine needles, rindy orange. Medium bodied with fine to average carbonation. Lightly resinous to finish, warming, with more crackers and orange. So so.

Bottle at The Cad’s 10 yr Shindig. Thanks to the Anders? It pours clear golden-amber with a small white head. The nose is sweet, juicy, fresh, plenty of orange citrus, resin, dough, earth and orange blossom. The taste is crisp, bitter, orange, tangerine, caramel, piney resin and some sponge cake malty action with a dry finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. Decent gear.

Bottle share at the Cad’s at CBC Clerkenwell. Thanks to Anders. Hazy orange amber, lightly sparkling, small foamy white head. Aroma is tangerine, musty caramel. Body is medium, foamy, low carbonation. Taste is light biscuity malt, citrus fruit, dry and resinous, floral, some metallics. May have been a touch of yeast in my pour of this one.

HopsandBolts (165) - Ontario, CANADA - MAR 21, 2015
650 ml bottle from the LCBO.

Appearance: Pours a clear copperish brown with very little head.

Aroma: Malt, cereal, caramel, hint of smoke.

Flavours: Cereal, caramel, hops, tobacco, bit of mango.

Mouthfeel: Creamy with moderate carbonation.

Overall: I like this one for the malt/hop balance and the subtle nuances in flavour. Some of the other Black Oak beers I’ve tried have been hit and miss so I wasn’t sure what to expect with this one. It didn’t disappoint. This is a really nice Imperial IPA.

Bouteille 650 ml. 8%. Couleur ambrée, mousse beige pâle. Arôme de houblon résineux, caramel. En bouche, malt, houblons, conifères, résines, notes d’alcool, un peu d’agrumes, caramel. Finale assez sèche, amertume qui s’étend. Très bonne.
