COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

St-Ambroise Russian Imperial Stout is Quebec’s tribute to the late 1700’s English Imperial Stouts, brewed for the Russian courts of Catherine the Great.
Made from a blend of barley malts, St-Ambroise Russian Imperial Stout is infused with Cascade, Goldings and Willamette hops, resulting in an outstanding hop-character with a smooth finish. Bourbon wood-aged, this full-bodied ale has a rich, smoky aroma with hints of vanilla, expresso and chocolate.

Serve St-Ambroise Russian Imperial Stout between 13°C and 15°C, preferably in a port glass or a brandy snifter. This stout will improve with age for a number of years. Store in a cool, dark place.

Pours pitch black with a small creamy mocha head. Aroma is heavy in chocolate with some coffee and vanilla scents, alongside a slight caramel and buttermilk undertone. Taste is rich and sweet up front with a lingering dry bitterness. Full bodied, subtle carbonation and a creamy mouth feel. Overall an amazing imperial stout, would love to have this one again.

Bouteille de 341ml. Arôme d’alcool perceptible. Alcool également très perceptible au goût. Encore trop jeune. A faire vieillir un an.

This is a fabulous-looking stout, oily black with a brown, burnt diesel head. Nice aroma of chocolate and hazelnuts, with a touch of vanilla and red fruits. Great slick palate, full bodied, all fine, but it is on the flavour that it does not impress me. The hazelnut sweeteness is just too overwhelming in that liquorice character. Almost anise/fennel-like sweetness. Too nutty, in my opinion, even overwhelming the interesting bitterness that it carries. A bit of a disappointment.

Nose is chocolate chip cookies, mocha, light roast & faint soy sauce. Taste of chocolate chip cookies, roast, bitter coffee grounds, tad soy sauce, coffee, bitter finish. Lingering grainy. Lighter, tad grainy body. A different kind of RIS, very nice.

Bottle with big thnx to Tom10101 !!!!! Pours pure black, good dark head . Smell is coffee, some bitter tones . Taste is bitter , coffee , full, dark roasted grainyness . Rather light mouthfeel . Full, coffee aftertaste . Perhaps a bit too light for my taste , yet the taste itself is very good !

Thanks Tommy for this one. 2012 bottle: Dark black body with brown cocoa head and nice lacing. Aroma of bourbon and roasted malts. Taste is rich, kind of sharp even, very bitter dark chocolate aftertaste. Really nice RIS.

Bottle from Canada courtesy of Ellen & Malcolm. Inky black with a good tan head. Lots of rich bitter coffee and chocolate flavour, the coffee coming through really strongly in the finish. Very little initial sweetness, and it could do with some more to be really top class. The alcohol is pretty well hidden. A little spiciness too. tasty, but not the best imp I’ve ever had.

Black with a foamy light coffee top. Vanilla, woods, bourbon, black chocolate, great aroma! Nice bitterness in the taste. Well rounded, slick and not too carbonated. A great brew
