4.8 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20 Heathen (1243) - Wilmington, USA - JAN 25, 2012
THOUGHTS: Wow. Really nice. Much smoother than I was expecting. The coffee kind of hid until the finish.
TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a dark brown that was nearly opaque black with only reddish amber highlights around the edges. Nice legs. It had virtually no head, but what little that was there was tan to light brown and mostly diminished, but somehow managed to leave good lacing. The aroma had heavy caramel and chocolate syrup; less coffee; dark fruit; raisin; plum; prune; other dried fruit; black cherry; vanilla; alcohol; and something that seemed like bourbon. The initial flavor was heavily sweet and slightly bitter; while the finish was heavy to nearly harshly sweet and lightly bitter. There was chocolate syrup, some dark chocolate, dark fruits like plum prune raisin, black cherry, coffee a little vanilla, alcohol, caramel, something like bourbon, molasses, brown sugar, toffee and fruity yeast and something maybe like sake. The medium to full body was very oily with soft, nearly flat, carbonation and a light to moderately alcoholic finish.

Small bottle, 8.5 oz i think. Pour is dark brown, close to black, with basically no head. Aroma is hugely malty with notes of coffee, molasses, and alcohol. The flavor is a tad cloying but not enough to stop me from drinking it. Notes of burnt sugar, ground coffee, and dark fruits. I’ve heard that this beer can be very hit or miss and thankfully I seem to have gotten a good bottle.

Totally amazing, really "extreme" beer. I think maturization has made this even better.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 kryon (267) - SWEDEN - APR 22, 2012
UPDATED: MAY 2, 2012 On bottle. Stored in cellar for a year.
Pours dark with low head.
Distinct aromas of coffee and alcohol . Taste of figs, dades, coffee beans. High sweetness and a great palate makes this stout really good. Has matured really well over a year which has made it less sticky. Very good imperial stout

Bottle from Vinmonopolet. Pours dark brown without any head. Aroma of dark chocolate, roasted malt and alcohol. Almost no carbonation and a bit more like wine. Quite sweet with a cocoa flavour and warming alcohol. Actually reminds me a bit of Kahlúa. Full body. Sweet dessert beer that is nice in small amounts. Looking forward to try it again in a couple of years.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 hayduke (2531) - Eureka, California, USA - APR 15, 2012
I got this bottle from the Local Beer Bar in Eureka, CA. Not cheap to say the least. Pours very black with a nice tan head and light lacing. Nose is coffee and something else. What it it? Not sure. Maybe Soy. Medium heavy in body. Rich in the mouth. Flavor is dominated by coffee but there is something sweet there as well like chocolate. A bit of coffee bitterness in the finish. The high alcohol content is remarkably well hidden Nice stuff.

Overbearingly sweet, so much so I wonder if they actually fermented any of this wort. Whatever they did, it’s absolutely terrible and should have never been sold.

Draught @ Oersted Oelbar. Looks great, thick black pour. A sweet roastiness dominates the nose, some vanilla coming through. Unbearably sweet taste though. Couldn’t even finish my small glass. Also disappointed that the dark fruit profile from the 2nd edition is absent.
