On tap at Kraftwork during Philly Beer Week 2010. Yet another beer event with the Ryans.
Pours super dark brown with only the slightest hints of light. Thin mocha head with a little lacing.
Big bourbon nose along with tons of toffee and treacle.
Incredibly sweet drinkable vanilla and molasses brew with a very strong caramel finish on the tongue.
Pretty full bodied with mild carb, and a slick buttery feeling.
This was easily one of the highlights of my Philly Beer Week and I ended up at Kraftwork twice in one day for a total of 4 of these pours. Absolutely incredible!

From notes. First reviewed 4/6/2011. Served on tap at Local Option in an 8 oz. stange. From notes.
This pours molasses, nearly black. A small ring is the only head present due to a continuous pour form the tap. The small head actually retains fairly nicely. Spots of lace.
Molasses, caramel, figs, and burnt caramel malt wander into my olfactory system.
There is definitely a strong sweetness up front, with burnt sugar and molasses really driving the flavor. Roast and caramel malt add some further flavor, and then a nice blend of figs and other dark fruits provide even more depth. Some booziness sneaks in here and there.
The mouthfeel is slightly sticky with a very full body. Light to medium carbonation. Smooth, a little harsh and boozy at points.
Overall, Black Biscuit is very smooth and drinkable.

Draft on tap at Bavarian Lodge Event (Lisle, IL). I’m shocked I’ve never reviewed this. I’ve definitely had it. A bit confused here. Either way.. Rating 2800. Pours an inky black thick pour, deep and dark opaque black with decent frothy tannish head atop, dies to a ring and laces small. Aromas are rich barrel, oak abd Bourbon mix with roast and toast, sweeter toffee, vanilla, gentle spice. Wet oak, some more sweet toffee, touches of dark fruit and oranges. Caramel. Initial is fuller bodied offering a strong heat up front, Bourbon and oak mix in, some fierce heat, moving into a sweet toffee and roast, toast, and gentle carmelization. Gentle vanilla, oak, and spirit. Good roast, some more molasses, cocoa, and coffee. Gets sweeter and mellow into the back, luscious and rich, inviting for a warm winter evening. Touches of dark fruit, orange rind and gentle sweeter citrus, more lingering barrel, oak, vanilla, spirit and sweet sticky malts. Touches of spicy anise into the finish as it warms. Pretty nice beer with some good depth and layers to get through. Well done, perhaps a bit hot but I’ll attribute that to this likely being a very fresh batch, the one that will see bottles soon. Anise caught me a bit off guard, but didn’t detract as coffee, roast, and toast press on and stick.

draft at Ribco on 11/16/11. 10 oz. pour into a Founders etched snifter for $7.50 and I got to keep the glass, how sweet is that! coal black with just a hint of a fast fading tan head by the time it was served at my end of the bar. aroma of burnt, roasted malts and black licorice. this was served very cold, so had to let it warm a bit. flavor was boozy dark chocolate with roasted notes along with some oak, vanilla and molasses. low carbonation, medium to full mouthfeel. not quite the uber stellar beer I was hoping for, but still another very solid beer from Founders which I’d love to see bottled.

On tap at Kraftwork during Philly Beer Week
A: Deep dark brown body with a small light brown head. Spotty clumps of lacing left after each sip.
S: A large bourbon blast dominates up front. Sweet vanilla and a sizable presence of oak. Lots of sweet malt with molasses, caramel and brown sugar all there.
T: Nicely balanced between the bourbon and the sweet malts. Molasses is probably the most dominant of the malt flavors followed by caramel, brown sugar, biscuits and toffee. A fair bit of dark fruits (figs, some cherries, and raisins) make themselves known here despite not being present in the nose.
M: Medium-full bodied. Gentle carbonation. A little warming from the booze and a nice lingering sweetness.
D: Pretty good. It might suffer a little from too much sweetness, but I had no problem consuming a pair of 10oz servings. Glad I got to enjoy this rarity.

This poured a pretty much jet black color with a small tan head. Aroma was just straight oak, bourbon and vanilla, with light roast and chocolate there too. Flavor was light dark chocolate, and mainly oak and vanilla and whiskey. Just the perfect amount of boubon and barrel another great one from founders.

On tap. It’s 6pm and I’m in line for this one. MBF 2010 RBSG. It’s like 6 oclock and I’m mostly drunk. Similar to other founders, thick chocolate and coffee, boozy and sweet with licorice hanging around, bit of fruit, I was going to say pine but I think it’s the pine tree beside me, a bit of fruit, creamy chocolate, awesome biscuit, awesome smelling beer. The taste is excellent, SAME AS OTHERS, sweet boozy candy, bourbon, good bitterness, burnt, huge roast, some sort of weird mint or something like that - odd thing - I’m going to be a mess tonight. It’s also got a hot heat to it too. Pretty good. Smooth finish.

Tap, RnH. Nearly black body with a dense tan head. Bourbon, whisky, cherry, chocolate, some pine in the aroma. Toasty flavors in addition to some bourbon, touch sweet, chocolate cherries and very warming. Thicker body with subtle carbonation. Damn solid.
