COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A group of hop-heads and publicans challenged our Beer Camp (#19) brewers to push the extremes of whole-cone hop brewing. The result is this: a 100 IBU, whole-cone hurricane of flavor. Simply put- Hoptimum: the biggest whole-cone IPA we have ever produced. Aggressively hopped, dry-hopped and torpedoed with our exclusive new hop varieties for ultra-intense flavors and aromas.

Hops, hops and more hops are the stars of this big, whole-cone Imperial IPA. Resinous ‘new-school’ and exclusive hop varieties carry the bold and aromatic nose. The flavor follows the aroma with layers of aggressive hoppiness, featuring notes of grapefruit rind, rose, lilac, cedar and tropical fruit – all culminating in a dry and lasting finish.

UPDATED: JAN 5, 2014 Sierra Nevada has really outdone themselves here. By far their "biggest" beer, Hoptimum reminds me of Stone’s Ruination IPA, but this is actually much stronger in flavor. Very resinious and oily. It is best to take small sips because the flavor will stay with you for quite some time. It achieves a dense but complex multitude of fruit-inspired flavors, almost like a Belgian Quadruple for hopheads. Malts are almost undetectable, but who cares. The hops balance themselves out, with the citrus flavors shining through the intense bitterness. A work of art.

From CitySuper. Translucent orange-amber with a big frothy, finely carbonated cream-white head. Foamy legs. Smells of floral/citrus hop, grapefruit, citrus rind, alcohol. Sweet maple syrup/bubblegum. A little bit of earthy yeast. Taste is of HUGE hops - starts out accompanied with some sweet malt and grapefruit but ends on a very bitter note. Alcohol is present (10.4%!) but warming. Body is very slick, medium carbonation, big mouthfeel but very smooth. Overall, this beer is wonderfully complex in the nose and massively hoppy in taste, though it doesn’t bully you with bitterness the way some over-hopped American DIPAs do. Still, big and hoppy and boozy enough that I can’t imagine having more than one in a sitting.

Medium amber, nice head. Big chewy piney hop character. Ok, but chewy and resiny, just not all that bright...only vague grapefruit.

Appearance: translucent golden brown color, very nice head when poured - white color and very dense, 2 inch head Aroma: hoppy, citrusy, earthy, grapefruit Taste: very hoppy, punch of flavor when you first sip, grapefruit keynotes and citrusy Palette: very bitter at end medium body, leaves a tinge on the tongue Overall: strong beer ! Very good ipa with lots of hops! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Appearance: very clear average gold color, some amber hues, pours with a very large beige head, nice density Aroma: grass, pine, strong resin like smell, citrus, spice, flowers, lemon, egg, incredibly complex, incredibly aromatic Taste: bitter, spicy, hoppy, alcohol, citrus, Palate: average carbonation, very bitter aftertaste, medium mouthfeel Overall: holy cow what a beer, so incredibly bitter throughout, makes Stone seem tame, very complex and in your face aroma, alcohol is definitely obvious in the taste and the only reason to dock it IMO, not sessionable at all but you need to experience this sometimes just to see the boundaries of ipa’s being pushed

Pours amber with little head and minimum lacing. Not a good start, huh? Well the aroma turns it the other way around. Extremely hoppy, which goes for the taste as well. The taste is very full and strong bitterness stays there from the beggining to the end. Great beer!

I had this at Global Brew. Pours orangish with a white head. Taste sweet, citrus, pine. I thought this was good. I would drink this again. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Backlog rating 8-14-2012 (Bottle) This beer has a medium sized off-white head with a long retention, slightly hazy golden body, fizzy, fast rising carbonation, and has spotty amounts of lacing. The aroma is malt, pine hops, hint of grapefruit, wheat. The flavor is heavily bitter, sweet malt pine hops, grapefruit, and has a semi-dry finish. The mouthfeel is aggressive and this beer is medium bodied. This beer has a lingering bitter aftertaste and is a beer for hopheads. This beer is too hoppy tasting for me, but is worth trying.

Bottiglia 33cl, ordinata su birraland è bevuta a casa. Piuttosto morbida come corpo, poco carbonata. Amarezza eterna e complessa. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhold

Pours crystall golden, with medium head, hoppy fragrance, not too strong, not too weak. Taste has a lot of body. Strong feeling with a starting sweetness, that is very well followed by the bitter finish. Thos is one hell of a beer! The moderate carbonation and strong hops make you very "burpy" though. :)

Pours Amber with a decent head. Citrus aroma with caramel notes. It is on the sweet side and not as balanced as some other DIPAs. Overall, it is still very good. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
