3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
500ml bottle from Premier Gourmet in Buffalo, New York. Black in colour with a long lasting creamy beige head, excellent lacing. The aroma is the hops first then the malt, chocolate and coffee, vanilla and citrus. The flavour is of citrus, espresso, lots of chocolate. Bitter mouthfeel, medium body, medium carbonation. Finishes long, hoppy and bitter. This one is strange for sure. Very bitter, the hops and malts don’t seem to work together here. Prefer the Beer Geek better.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
330 mL bottle. The pour is a nice black, dark and heavy with a thin cap of darker khaki head that falls to a collar. The aroma is malty and roasty with a light bitterness. I don't get any coffee at all on this. It's a little disappointing. The flavor is hoppy, with a touch of malt. That's about it. There is no complexity. The mouth feel is incredibly thick with a heavy soft carbonation. The aftertaste is wonderful. There is a lingering coffee go go with a slight maltiness and a touch of bitter hops. It's good, but the lack of coffee and resounding flavor is really a disappointment.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
33 cl single bottle into a shaker, purchased at Hy-Vee Wine & Spirirts - Muscatine. Black appearance with a lingering, lacy, light brown head. Aroma of coffee, roasted malt, chocolate fudge, caramel, vanilla, cocoa, light toffee, earthy hops and light pine. The flavor adds some zesty hops, a moderate bitterness, a mild sweetness and a lingering, light dry finish. Rich and balanced with a medium body. This is really good, probably my favorite "Black IPA".

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Aroma is a fine mixture of hops and coffee, earthy hops, robust malt, chocolate, pine, really really complex. Appearance is black, thick, light brown head. Taste is unbelievable, wonderful coffee, chocolate, cookie, roasted malt, followed by pine, bitter earthy hops, wow. Mouthfeel is incredibly thick, lingering hop and malt bitterness, light to medium carbonation. Overall, holy fuck balls I am enjoying this one, and I’m not huge about this style. Easily the best black IPA I’ve tasted.
