1998 bottle served in its corresponding glass at DHVL for my Pre-Wedding Celebration. It pours deep red, with a thick, fluffy white head. The nose is jammy fruit, juicy cherry, blackcurrant and some wood. The taste is just so well balanced - tart cherry, jam, strawberry, blackcurrant, wood, vinous notes and a touch of vinegar, with a smooth, slightly tart finish. Medium body, moderate carbonation and just the right level of tartness. Very well balanced and straight-up delicious. If this was readily available I could easily drink plenty at a single sitting.

(Bottle) Pours copper amber. The aroma is balanced, complex and mature with tones of red and yellow apples, cherries, dessert wine, honey, old newspapers, dusty attic and raspberry vinegar alongside a light earthy touch. The flavour is light sweet and medium acidic with no bitterness. Vinous and mature. The mouthfeel is tart and bright with a light carbonation. Medium bodied. Fantastic!

Bottle shared by my Director at work on a Friday afternoon, awesome to have a boss that makes a shit ton of money that’s into beer. Pours a murky reddish amber with a thick head, the aroma sucks you in right away, nice tartness from the cherries with a hint of wood as well, the flavor has a good amount of vinegar notes mixed in with the tartness of the cherries and a finish with chocolate, very smooth and enjoyable. Awesome stuff.

Originally rated August 2006. Had this one at Vineyards, back in the day. Was one of the best tasting beer I had tried at the time. Came in a bottle wrapped up. If they had not discontinued it, I would buy shitloads of this stuff. Had good cherry presence. Goodbye Alexander, now we we have his brother... the Grand Cru.

Thanks to jrallen34 on BA for this excellent tick. Somewhat hazy reddish brown in color with a small off-white head. The aroma is nice and fruity, with cherry and raspberry notes and a bit of vinegar. The flavor is extremely fruity with cherry, vinous notes, vinegar, and other berries. Somewhat sweet and only mildly tart. Medium-bodied with average carbonation and only mild acidity. This tick was much appreciated and the beer was tasty. I approve.

(33cl bottle thanks to bu11zeye) clear rich amber/orange with a ring of bubbles. Nose of maple syrup, caramel, oak, brown sugar, a bit of moss, no real oxidation to speak of either. Impressive! Taste of black cherries, bit of moss and vinegar, sweet/tart brown sugar, not super complex but very easy to drink and solid. Smooth finish with a tart/sweet linger.

Bottle acquired in a trade with GG (thanks!) a while back enjoyed out of my Rodenbach Alexander snifter. Pour is deep brownish purple with pretty much no head. Looks to be still at this point. Aroma is deep and earthy with notes of tart fruity sweetness and a deeper layer of rich candy sugar and caramel malt. Flavor is different than expected and really very intriguing. Not as tart as expected and not quite still- notes of carbonation do tingle on tongue as i sip the beer. Loads of deep earthy rich cereal malt and a light cherry sweetness are first to hit. Faint hints of sourness do exist, but they are in the periphery. Also a light prune note with hints of malt vinegar without the sharp acidity. There are also light notes of wood and a faint hint of oxidation present. Really glad to have had the opportunity to try this one with my wife. Very interesting beer to be sure.

Koelschtrinker (6544) - Köln (Cologne), North Rhine-Westphalia, GERMANY - JUN 9, 2011
Test vom 14.8.2008, Gebinde: Glasflasche Noten: -,12,12,11,8,12 - 11,61
