Abner (1867-1953) is our great grandfather; Hill Farmstead Brewery rests upon the land that was once home to him and his fourteen children.  In his honor, this Double IPA is dutifully crafted from American malted barley, a plethora of American hops, our ale yeast and water from Abner’s well.  It is unfiltered, naturally carbonated, and double dry hopped.  Aromatic and flowery, bursting with notes of citrus and pine, this is the ale that I dream to have shared with Abner.

As soon I popped the top on this growler I was attacked with a huge hoppy presence. Grapefruit is huge! Citrus isn’t lagging far behind and a piney aroma brings up the rear. I could of sat there all night long just taking in the aroma of this beer. Amazing! Now a lot of the time iyou’ll hear me say something like “The taste doesn’t match the aroma” Not here. I think the taste is actually better than the aroma. The hop profile here isn’t “clean”. Instead it’s a deep hop aroma. It’s hard to explain other than say it’s a dank and dirty and it’s just over the top fantastic. Huge amount of grapefruit, citrus, and pine. It just sits there, lingers There seems to be some other tropical fruits mixed in there but the grapefruit and citrus take frontstage and run away with the show. You can tell this beer is dry hopped big time. It just sits in the mouth. There’s a slight bitterness to it that comes in about half way and lingers just a tad on the aftertaste. Everything about this beer just worked for me. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, chewy, and leaves a bit of a dryness on the palette.

On tap at the Farmhouse Tap & Grill - Burlington VT. Absolutely fantastic beer! Colour our gold and the liquid is a bit hazy. Head is snow-white and bubbly. Nose is citrucy and fresh. Flavours didn’t exploded at first sip because the beer was to cold so I wait a few minutes and then... BANG! All the flavours previously hidden came to my tongue, my palate, my nose... The thing I probablu liked the most with this one was it’s carbonation that gives this beer a unique and subtil mineral texture. I highly recommand this one!

First Hill Farmstead rating! Catching up on older ratings from notes. From growler shipped in from the Northeast at a bottle share at Upson’s house on November 9, 2014. Pours a dark amber with white head. Excellent AROMA of peach, salty sea air, dank hops, citrus, and honey. FLAVOR of zesty citrus, tangerines, tropical fruit, and honey malts. Lovingly balanced...lightly sweet and bitter. Liked it better than the HF Double Citra which we also had from the growler. Very, very good stuff. (311, 937)

Backlog rating. Growler at the Chriso’s May tasting, London. Leighton you’re the man! It pours a ripe apricot color with large fluffy white head. Aroma is juicy fruity hops, with notes of tropical fruit salad, cedar wood, dank, grass, citrus. Taste is similarly, bold, juicy, intense and fruity, yet never too sweet. More notes of damp, weed, citrus peel grapefrut mango and lychee. Medium to full bodied with good carboation. Overall, truly delicious, plays on a different league

From 0.75 l growler in tulip. Pours a cloudy orange with a perfect off white head. Huge flowery nose with tropical fruits. Mango and passion fruit. Lots of pine notes too. Taste is full bodied with a burst of citrus and pine hops. Grain, caramel and dough notes perfectly balance the hop bitterness kicking in towards the end. It has this unique Hill Farmstead barnyard touch too. Could drink it every day! Silky moutfeel! Perfect DIPA!

P: Hazy murky orange/yellow with a very thin white head. S: Rich citrus, apricots, lemons, mango and light alcohol. T: Pineapples, apricots, mango, pine grains in the back, caramel malts with just a little bit of alcohol in the back. M: Medium body, soft carbonation with almost no bitterness. O: Not bad, which the alcohol was hidden better but it is still hoppy and well done.
