On tap @brewdog pub, a deep dark beer with brownish head. Nose is intense on dry grapes and figs, lots of dark chocolate too. Aroma is on roasted malt, dark chocolate, caramel, burning alcool, amazing smooth fig note on after taste, very smooth for the strenght of the beer.

Keg at Brewdog. Dark brown black with a tan head. Totally delicious. Coffee, chocolate and burnt toast. Slightly oaky. I couldn’t say I was picking out red wine but the wood is there. Really luxurious imperial stout backbone to be playing around with. A wonderful range.

On draught in brewdog Edinburgh, quite liked this. All the characteristics of an imperial stout with the underlying hints of the red wine barrel conditioning. Not as sweet as a stout can be, enjoyable and easily drinkable.

Black, thick body with a redish hue. A nice foam that sadly fades quickly.
Smells sweetly of raisins, dark chocolate. Taste of soy, vanilla, chocolate and plums. Nice lingering aftertaste with a hint of anise.

Bottle at Dan’s, pour courtesy of Aaron. Thanks again! Poured a deep, yet red-tinted brown, with a two-finger brown head. Smell is molasses, coffee, dark fruits, light smoke, and tobacco. Very smooth taste, with touches of dark fruit, raisin, light chocolate, and tart cherries. Sticky mouthfeel and soft carbonation, with great lacing. Alcohol is hidden well and this version is much better than the original. Complex and highly drinkable. Delicious.

Bottle @ Dan’s house. Black appearance with a brown head and pretty decent carbonation. Faint grape/red wine, roasty/charred malty, slightly ashy aroma. A lot less ash and spiciness than the white wine and base version. Fairly fruity, roasty, dark charred chocolate malty, somewhat smoky flavor that’s way more smooth than the others than I’ve had.

In short: A very vinous and oaky big black beer. Good
How: Bottle 375ml. No date on the bottle but I assume over one year of age. Anyway, a few more years wouldn’t change much on a beer like this
The look: Black body with burgundy notes.
In long: Nose offers a surprisingly harmonious blend of roast and vinous notes. It would have been a very nice aroma if it wasn’t for the alcohol fumes. But it’s a 13% beer, so I’ll like with it. Taste is what you expect just by reading the beer name. It’s big, it’s roasted, burnt caramel, a hint of chocolate, notes of coffee, strong vinous barrel character, some tannins. The red wine barrels add a strong astringency and that washes the month and only leaves a slight alcohol bite, a very clean finish. Carbonation was on the very soft side but seemed fitting for this vinous beer. I can’t say I was crazy about it, I do prefer a few regular Black Hole, but this was a fun beer and I downed my bottle pretty quickly considering it is a 13% monster beer. Another beer from my backlog I’m entering from work, and I feel like I’m always more behind on my ratings backlog than on my work, which is weird because when I work I spend a lot more time typing beer ratings than I do doing actual work.

Tap. Rich nose - honey, maltesers, choc drops and soft roasty goodness. A little thin due to the barrel I imagine. Same flavours in the mouth with a prick of red wine sweetness. Very nice, but the original is still king.

Nice black pour. Head disappeared quickly. Aroma of coffee, dark malt and oak. Full bodied with a nice viscosity. Wine characteristics are more prevalent toward the finish, nicely meshed with coffee favors and a subtle bitter chocolate. Glad I tried this one. Not bad and would drink again.
